The Insurer – now part of Reuters News – is a market-leading specialty (re)insurance news, analysis and data service. We are looking for a Sub-editor to join our London-based editorial and production team to support them as they break news for The Insurer and deliver leading content to our global audience.

Our focus is on underwriting and distribution in the area of complex risk, as well as the capital, infrastructure and services that support the industry.

Insurance and reinsurance play a critical role enabling almost every area of the global economy in a fast-changing risk environment shaped by diverse factors from climate change to cyber threats.

Our coverage provides a highly engaged audience with business-critical intelligence and information to help them navigate that evolving landscape.

We are looking for a Sub-editor to join our growing London team as they cover the sector for our flagship title The Insurer and its sister publications Program ManagerE&S InsurerCyber Risk Insurer, Parametric Insurer and Sustainable Insurer.

This is a role that requires a range of production and sub-editing skills. The ideal candidate would have demonstrable experience operating in a business-to-business publishing environment and an enthusiastic, flexible approach with a desire to work in a small but growing team.

About the role

As Sub-editor at The Insurer, you will:

  • Sub-edit a range of content from breaking news to analysis and features from our team of editors and journalists 
  • Uphold our high editorial standards and ensure consistency of style in our published content
  • Work with journalists and editors to research and source eye-catching images to accompany articles
  • Create or style up graphics to support and illustrate our reporting based on briefs from our team of editors and journalists
  • Lay out and upload articles for online publishing through our content management system, including the formatting and sending of breaking news email alerts
  • Work with our editors on the production of daily email newsletters
  • Work with our editors on the layout of monthly publications (which are delivered in pdf format)

About you

You’re a fit for the role of Sub-editor at The Insurer if your background includes: 

  • Demonstrable experience in sub-editing and production, preferably at digital business-to-business publications 
  • Experience of working at a financial publication is desirable but not essential
  • A meticulous approach to sub-editing and eye for detail together with strong organisational and workflow management skills
  • A demonstrable track record of delivering consistent sub-edited copy under pressure while adhering to strict deadlines
  • Enthusiasm, imagination and digital ideas are all essential. Understanding of social media and SEO as well as a strong news sense and judgement are highly preferred
  • Experience with content management systems and email distribution systems
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud software (Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign) is desirable
