Senior Tax & Audit AI Engineer, FDE
Job Description
Help tax and audit professionals turn real business challenges into reliable AI solutions. In this hands-on role, you will combine tax or audit expertise with AI tools to build automations, validate their accuracy and deliver solutions that professionals can confidently use. You will work directly with clients, engineers and Thomson Reuters specialists, from early prototypes through deployment.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with public accounting firms and corporate tax departments to understand workflows, identify automation opportunities and define successful outcomes.
- Design solutions that preserve professional judgment and incorporate controls for accuracy, risk and professional standards.
- Build prompts, AI agent instructions, prototypes and working automations using AI coding tools, Python and low-code platforms.
- Own AI evaluation and accuracy validation by creating expert-validated reference datasets, testing outputs against professional criteria and approving accuracy before deployment.
- Support client demonstrations and early engagement discussions by showing how AI can address real tax and audit challenges.
- Develop reusable prompts and automations for return review, workpaper preparation, K-1 processing, tax provision and audit testing.
- Collaborate with Thomson Reuters domain experts, editorial and product teams to keep solutions aligned with product capabilities, tax law and professional standards.
Required Qualifications
- Five or more years of hands-on experience in public accounting, corporate tax or audit, with a relevant professional credential—such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Enrolled Agent (EA) or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA)—or equivalent depth of professional experience.
- Demonstrated experience applying AI to real tax or audit work, including prompt engineering, custom agents or assistants, and AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor or GitHub Copilot.
- Experience delivering at least one automation or AI tool used by others, and building evaluation datasets and test harnesses to measure accuracy, consistency and failure points.
- Advanced Excel skills and working knowledge of SQL or Python.
- Strong professional judgment when assessing accuracy, managing risk and determining where human review is necessary.
- Ability to translate complex workflows into practical solutions, collaborate across disciplines and communicate clearly with clients, tax and audit leaders, and engineers.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Thomson Reuters products, such as UltraTax CS, GoSystem Tax RS, ONESOURCE, Checkpoint or CoCounsel.
- Experience at a large public accounting firm or a complex corporate tax department.
- Formal programming training, a coding bootcamp or a portfolio of AI projects.
- Experience developing quality assurance or professional review processes for tax or audit work.
