The Opportunity: Work term of 4 months starting in January 2027.
Join a team of experienced hardware engineers focused on the design, qualification, manufacturing, and lifecycle management of advanced optical communication products within the WaveLogic portfolio. This opportunity provides exposure to electrical design, manufacturing operations, failure analysis, statistical data analysis, laboratory validation, and cross-functional product development. The products support fiber optic data rates of up to 1,600 Gbps and are used by leading content providers and telecommunications companies.
How you will make an impact:
- Perform simulation activities, functional schematic reviews, physical PCB layout reviews, BOM generation, and documentation.
- Conduct hardware debugging, electrical design verification against datasheet specifications, and documentation of results.
- Review component specifications and research alternate sources to support qualification activities.
- Analyze large-scale manufacturing yield data to identify engineering insights that can improve factory yield.
The must haves:
- Education: Actively enrolled in a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Engineering Physics, or equivalent,
- Foundational knowledge of lab equipment: multimeters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, electronic loads, basic soldering.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with the HW Design process (schematic, layout, documentation).
Nice to haves:
- Demonstrated interest in prototyping/embedded hardware projects.
- Exposure to optical transceivers, coherent optics, or telecom networking.
- Familiarity with statistical analysis techniques (histogram distributions, Q-Q plots, STDev, CpK parameters) and visualizations (PowerBI, Excel, JMP).
- Confidence presenting ideas to colleagues and management as required.
- Experience with Cadence Allegro toolset.
- Experience with scripting languages (i.e Python, Linux shell, PowerQuery, Tcl).
Pay Range:
The pay range for this position is $25.50 - $35.00/hour CAD.
