Title and Summary

Vice President, Software EngineeringRole Overview
Mastercard is seeking a Vice President of Software Engineering to lead a strategic engineering organization responsible for delivering enterprise capabilities that enable configuration, onboarding, validation, certification, and lifecycle management.
This leader will be responsible for defining and executing technology strategy, product delivery, platform modernization, operational excellence, and organizational leadership necessary to scale these capabilities and support Mastercard's evolving business needs.

This is a senior technology leadership role for a strategic thinker, execution-focused engineering leader, and organizational builder who can operate effectively across product, engineering, architecture, operations, security, and business stakeholders.

Responsibilities
Lead the Settings Engineering Strategy
  • Define and execute the technology vision, strategy, and roadmap.
  • Drive platform modernization initiatives leveraging cloud-native architecture, APIs, event-driven systems, and modern engineering practices.
  • Ensure the platform remains scalable, resilient, secure, and aligned with enterprise architecture standards.
  • Partner with business and product leaders to align technology investments with strategic business priorities.
  • Develop multi-year engineering roadmaps that balance innovation, operational stability, and customer needs.
Drive Product Delivery and Business Outcomes
  • Partner closely with Product Management to translate business strategy into executable engineering plans.
  • Establish outcome-based delivery practices focused on customer value, business impact, and measurable results.
  • Ensure successful delivery of strategic initiatives across multiple global teams and stakeholder groups.
Enable Digital Transformation
  • Drive the transformation of manual operational processes into scalable digital experiences.
  • Improve operational efficiency through automation, workflow modernization, and intelligent tooling.
  • Lead initiatives that enhance customer experience, reduce operational friction, and improve onboarding effectiveness.
Drive Engineering Excellence
  • Establish and maintain high standards for software architecture, code quality, testing, automation, security, and reliability.
  • Champion modern software engineering practices, including CI/CD, DevSecOps, observability, and Site Reliability Engineering principles.
  • Improve engineering productivity through automation, platform capabilities, and AI-assisted software development tools.
  • Ensure engineering teams consistently deliver high-quality, secure, and maintainable software.
  • Drive proactive management of technical debt, resiliency, performance, and scalability.
Build and Lead a High-Performing Global Engineering Organization
  • Recruit, develop, and lead a global organization of software engineers, engineering managers, architects, and technical leaders.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, collaboration, learning, and continuous improvement.
  • Develop leadership pipelines and succession plans to ensure long-term organizational strength.
  • Promote diversity of thought and create an environment where teams can thrive and perform at their highest potential.
  • Lead geographically distributed teams across multiple technology hubs.
Drive AI Adoption and Engineering Productivity
  • Lead the adoption of AI-enabled software development capabilities across the organization.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage AI to improve developer productivity, software quality, and operational efficiency.
  • Establish governance and best practices for responsible use of AI technologies within engineering workflows.
  • Measure and communicate business outcomes associated with AI-driven improvements.
Partner Across Mastercard
  • Collaborate with Product, BizOps, Customer Delivery, Security, Architecture, Enterprise Platforms, and leadership teams.
  • Influence strategic decisions and technology investments at senior leadership levels.
  • Represent the team within enterprise technology forums and leadership discussions.
  • Communicate strategy, execution progress, risks, and business outcomes to executive stakeholders.
  • Build strong relationships with customers, internal partners, and external vendors.
Experiences
  • Proven experience building and operating enterprise-scale software platforms.
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems, cloud-native architectures, APIs, event-driven platforms, and modern application development practices.
  • Experience leading large-scale technology modernization and digital transformation initiatives.
  • Demonstrated success delivering complex business-critical platforms in highly regulated or mission-critical environments.
  • Strong track record of building, mentoring, and developing high-performing engineering teams.
  • Experience managing large technology portfolios, budgets, and strategic investment decisions.
  • Ability to influence senior executives and drive alignment across cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Experience implementing AI-assisted software development capabilities and engineering productivity initiatives.Corporate Security Responsibility
