Transform the everyday with us!

As the Vertical Sales Executive - Higher Education (Building Automation), you will identify, develop, and win large-scale capital projects valued at $3M+ across colleges and universities. This is a strategic, quota-carrying hunting role focused on creating opportunities before they reach procurement, building executive-level relationships, and leading complex pursuits involving building automation, digitalization, energy infrastructure, and smart campus modernization.

Successful candidates are energized by proactive prospecting, uncovering customer needs, influencing decision makers, shaping projects before RFP release, and orchestrating cross-functional teams to secure transformational projects. Higher Education experience is valued, but demonstrated success hunting and closing complex technical opportunities is the primary requirement.

As the Vertical Sales Executive – Higher Education (Building Automation), you will:

  • Identify, qualify, and pursue new capital-project opportunities valued at $3M+ across an assigned national or regional portfolio of Higher Education accounts.
  • Build a robust, self-generated pipeline through targeted prospecting, market intelligence, industry networks, construction and capital-plan signals, partner relationships, and direct executive outreach.
  • Create and advance opportunities before formal procurement or RFP release by shaping customer priorities, influencing solution strategy, and positioning Siemens as the preferred partner.
  • Lead complex pursuits from initial identification through qualification, solution development, executive alignment, commercial strategy, proposal, negotiation, and project award.
  • Develop executive relationships with university leaders across Facilities, Finance, Operations, Sustainability, Procurement, Research, and the C-suite.
  • Build compelling business cases that connect automation, digitalization, energy performance, resilience, deferred maintenance, and lifecycle outcomes to institutional priorities.
  • Orchestrate Siemens Area teams, operations leaders, technical specialists, Digital and Automation resources, partners, and executive sponsors around a clear win strategy.
  • Position Siemens building automation, Building X, digital services, energy optimization, infrastructure modernization, and related smart-campus capabilities as an integrated customer solution.
  • Own account and pursuit strategies while collaborating effectively within Siemens' matrixed sales model and respecting local customer relationships and execution responsibilities.
  • Maintain disciplined pipeline, forecast, probability, next-step, and customer-engagement data in Siemens sales systems.
  • Use AI-enabled tools and data sources to accelerate account research, stakeholder mapping, outreach preparation, opportunity qualification, and pursuit planning.
  • Represent Siemens at targeted customer meetings, conferences, industry associations, and partner events.
  • Collaborate with delivery and operations teams to ensure commitments made during the sales process are executable, profitable, and aligned with customer expectations.

You will make an impact with these qualifications:

Basic Qualifications

  • 8+ years of quota-carrying sales experience in building automation, controls, energy services, infrastructure modernization, performance contracting, digital buildings, or similarly complex technical solutions
  • Demonstrated success originating, developing, and closing large capital or enterprise opportunities valued at $3M+
  • Proven history of new-logo acquisition, proactive pipeline generation, and advancing opportunities without relying primarily on inbound demand or inherited accounts
  • Experience leading long-cycle, multi-stakeholder pursuits involving executive decision makers, engineering, operations, finance, procurement, and external partners
  • Ability to establish credibility with both technical and executive audiences and translate complex capabilities into measurable business outcomes
  • Strong financial and commercial acumen, including value-based selling, business-case development, forecasting, negotiation, and margin discipline
  • Experience coordinating cross-functional pursuit teams and influencing contributors without direct authority
  • Ability and willingness to travel approximately 50% based on customer, pursuit, conference, and team needs
  • Must be 21 years of age and possess a valid driver's license with limited violations; must meet eligibility requirements to participate in Siemens' fleet vehicle program
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current or prior Siemens sales experience, including working knowledge of Siemens Building Automation, Digital Buildings, Building X, energy, or related Smart Infrastructure offerings
  • Experience selling directly to colleges, universities, healthcare systems, government agencies, or similarly complex institutional customers
  • Experience with performance contracting, capital planning, deferred maintenance, central utility or energy infrastructure, modernization programs, or multi-building portfolios
  • Familiarity with consultant, architect, engineer, general contractor, mechanical contractor, electrical contractor, and partner-influence channels
  • Understanding of Higher Education capital approval, funding, procurement, governance, and consensus-driven decision making
  • Experience with Siemens sales and project governance processes, including SieSales and relevant milestones
  • Knowledge of digital building platforms, analytics, AI-enabled building services, energy optimization, and recurring digital-service models
