Testing & Commissioning Engineer - Technical Services

Siemens Rail Electrification powers electric trains, trams, and metros worldwide by designing, installing, and maintaining all the necessary equipment, like substations and overhead lines. Their work ensures these vehicles get the electricity they need to run safely and efficiently, supporting modern electric transport and helping to reduce its environmental impact.

We have an exciting opportunity to join Siemens Mobility as a Testing & Commissioning Engineer to join our Coventry office. In this role, you’ll work within a site-based team and are responsible for the safe and effective delivery of service activities and electrical installation work packages within the work scope of the Technical Services department and Product Supply. The Technical Services department is responsible for electrical integration works within Siemens’ rail MV Substations, Rail Charging Converters and Power Conversion projects. which includes installation of switchgear into modular buildings or existing substation sites, installation of low voltage control boxes and other equipment, panel wiring and interconnecting cabling, SF6 gas handling, and all Test and Commissioning activities.

You’ll make a difference by

• Taking ownership and provide test and commissioning works in line with ITP’s
• Leading and delivering work packages to the required quality, budget, and programme and in accordance with relevant company procedures
• Ensuring safe working practices and environment and promote a safe working culture throughout our works
• Completing all Test and Commissioning, including P&C, Pressure testing, Ductoring, SCADA, Function checking, IR testing, CT/VT analysing, primary testing etc
• Undertaking installation of electrical equipment, including (but not limited to), medium and low voltage switchgear, power conversion products, low voltage control panels, interconnecting cabling, and cable management systems
• Attending UK rail sites from time-to-time to undertake works, requiring you to be capable of holding a current Sentinel Personal Track Safety (PTS) qualification, minimum C preferential to hold D.

What you’ll need to succeed

• Hold relevant Trackside Competency PTS (Hold Level C & D competency) (desirable)
• Siemens 8DA maintenance and AIS switchgear training certification
• Experience of test and commissioning medium voltage substations, power conversion technologies such as SFC, SVC, RCCs, including switchgear, transformers, protection devices, RTU’s, SCADA (desirable)
• Siemens GIS (Medium Voltage) or comparable GIS switchgear installation and maintenance experience
• SF6 gas-handling qualification
• The ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, test documentation and Inspection and Test Plans
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
