Position Overview :

The Sr. Engineer, Body Structures is responsible for assessing and validating manufacturing assembly processes to ensure body structure design requirements are achieved on the production line. Be the technical lead of all product issue root cause and deviation Containment. Support product launch as the single point of engineering contact for Body structures. Responsible for sustaining engineering after initial product launch. This includes design and release of new parts as required, such as to improve quality or the assembly process. Working with core engineering to ensure parts meet all design and validation requirements.

Key Responsibilities :

Body Structures assembly ownership 

Solve complex component/system level problems using standard problem-solving techniques to determine root cause and provide containments.

Responsible for assessing and validating manufacturing assembly processes to ensure body structure design requirements are achieved on the production line.

Data driven proactive problem solving & issue avoidance due to process deviations or critical part quality issues.

Support new product launches, execute part concession deviations for Body structures in the manufacturing plant.

Collaboration with manufacturing to ensure efficient process sequence and build quality.

Sustaining Engineering

Responsible for the design and development of weight efficient automotive BIW Structural parts and assemblies to deliver the highest level of performance in NVH, Durability and Crashworthiness performance into production with experience developing body assemblies 

Work closely with other stake owners and attribute owners across the company such as Vehicle Safety, Vehicle Dynamics, NVH, Durability, Manufacturing, Design Studio, etc. to prove design solutions.

Cross functionally works with Manufacturing, Design and Product Development as well as with Purchasing, Supplier Quality, Stamping and Suppliers on items such as tool buy-offs and secondary component changes.

Coordinate and communicate with interfacing suppliers.

Effectively provide direction to others and negotiate a balanced solution.

Coordinate virtual engineering and physical validation testing activities for your designs.

Travel domestically and internationally as required.

Skills :

Proven 3D CAD skills, in surface modeling, solid modeling, GD&T, and drawings preferably in 3D Experience or CATIA V6 or CATIA V5.

Hands-on knowledge of GD&T, root cause analysis, DFMEA, PFMEA, statistical process control, and production issue resolution

Strong technical ownership, data-driven decision making, continuous improvement mindset, and manufacturing/field-quality orientation.

Ability to create testing plan and conduct / coordinate physical tests to prove out design concepts and ensure performance targets are being achieved.

Hands-on practical experience in prototype assembly and production assembly with the willingness to assemble your own parts.

Minimum Qualifications :

BS in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering disciplines with 5+ years of automotive experience in design and release of vehicle attributes or master’s degree in mechanical or automotive disciplines with 5+ years of automotive experience in design & release of vehicle attributes

Professional certification in Six Sigma (Black Belt or Green Belt), Shainin RedX, or an equivalent problem-solving methodology.

Experience working with stampings, castings, and extrusions. Bonus if experienced with Class A panels.

Experience in technology, system and supplier selection.

Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment is crucial.

Detail oriented personality with a determined problem-solving attitude using an Engineering first principles approach.

Design release engineering experience including engineering change management and project management experiences.

Proof of excellence in your past position, while demonstrating profound creativity in resolving mechanical design problems.

Experience in full life cycle development from concept to prototype to full production
