Telecom Designer, Infrastructure & Network Operations
Description
Tesla is seeking an experienced Telecom Designer to join our Infrastructure & Network Operations team. In this role, you will play a critical part in shaping the communications infrastructure that powers Tesla's global facilities — from Gigafactories to corporate campuses. You'll be embedded in a fast-paced, mission driven environment where your designs directly support Tesla's manufacturing, energy, and technology operations.
Responsibilities
- Lead and complete project assignments with minimal supervision; provide direction to support staff to drive projects to completion
- Support local projects while collaborating with team members on initiatives across Tesla's global portfolio
- Prepare comprehensive drawing packages including site plans, floor plans, enlarged communication room layouts, equipment rack/cabinet layout elevations, backbone schematics, and infrastructure design details
- Apply knowledge of Division 27 specifications to all design work, and prepare cable pathway fill calculations and opinions of probable cost
- Coordinate network infrastructure design across engineering disciplines including civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, architectural, and door locking hardware
- Conduct field surveys and produce reports during programming, construction, and post-construction phases to ensure adherence to Tesla best practices
- Ensure conformance with applicable codes, standards, established design practices, and technical adequacy of design and construction documents
- Serve as a technical resource and subject matter expert for stakeholders across the company
- Develop and design within a BIM environment using Revit and Revizto; collaborate with BIM modelers during design development and documentation
- Manage project execution from concept to completion, including meeting attendance, site visits, RFI responses, and submittal reviews
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field (Electrical Engineering, Communications Technology, or equivalent) or equivalent professional experience
- Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) certification —a plus
- 3+ years of relevant experience as an RCDD in a design or engineering capacity
- Proficiency in Autodesk design tools including Revit, AutoCAD; experience with Revizto a plus
- Deep understanding of communications systems design, including structured cabling, wireless infrastructure, and AV/security systems
- Familiarity with Bluebeam Revu for document markup and collaboration
- Strong ability to read and interpret construction documents, specifications, and codes
- Excellent communication and coordination skills with the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams
- Self-motivated with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
