The Internship assignment:

As an intern in Systems & Data Engineering – Intralogistics, you play a key role in supporting and optimizing material flow within the Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams such as Process Engineering, Production Control, Material Planning, Factory Software, and Operations to configure systems across warehouses, storage areas, and production lines, and further develop the Material Flow System (MFS), from new automation features to testing and rollout. Additionally, you will support the logistics team with data analyses by maintaining KPIs, reports, and dashboards related to PFEP, inventory coverage, and stock levels, identifying recurring sources of error, and developing preventive measures. You will also contribute to planning shopfloor processes and layouts, proposing your own process improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Support Material Flow team with System configuration across warehouses, storage areas, and production lines to enable reliable material replenishment.  
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as Process Engineering, Production Control, Material Planning, Factory Software, and Operations to design, configure, and improve all aspects of material flow in MFS. 
  • Help Design, develop, test, and release new system features to automate production parts material flow and inventory tracking, including QA, production validation, monitoring, and rollback readiness.
  • Support the Tesla logistics team with data analytics: build and maintain KPIs, operational reports, and internal dashboards covering PFEP (Plan for Every Part), inventory coverage, and stock levels, including data-quality checks and proactive alerts on bottlenecks, shortages, and process anomalies.
  • Work directly with operations to identify repeating human and system errors, then design preventive measures like alerts, operator notes, and process checks. 
  • Support planning and Implementation of processes and layouts on the shop floor.
  • Provide insights and suggestions for processes improvements.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled or recently graduated in Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.  
  • Logical thinking and problem-solving skills, including the ability to work through ambiguous operational issues. 
  • Basic knowledge of SQL (MySQL, ClickHouse), including joins, aggregations, data manipulation, and data validation. 
  • Familiar with Python for data processing, ETL pipelines, and light backend / automation work.   
  • Fluency in English; German is a plus. 
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
