Supply Chain Manager, Energy Construction

Description

Tesla's Energy Deployment team is seeking candidates with construction procurement and outsourced labor services experience. This role will primarily involve identifying suppliers and negotiating agreements to perform civil and electrical services for EV Supercharger and utility-scale energy storage projects.

This position involves deep engagement with the global utility and renewable energy supply chain ecosystem, traveling to projects & suppliers across different regions, and making critical decisions that directly impact grid-scale energy storage deployments. The goal: to enable rapid deployment of Supercharger stations and utility-scale Megapack BESS installations while coordinating with project management and construction schedules to optimize the right labor and equipment in the right place at the right time.

Responsibilities

• Strategic Procurement of Electrical Infrastructure and EPC Labor:
• Negotiate optimal terms for specialized electrical labor. Understand trade-offs between cost, quality, and timelines specific to utility-scale renewable construction projects.
• Experience building and developing unit-based labor contracts that support nationwide aggressive deployment schedules is a plus.
• Develop and leverage in-depth should-cost analysis to achieve the lowest total cost of ownership.
• Leverage knowledge of utility procurement cycles and renewable project timelines to Tesla's strategic advantage.
• Draft and manage contracts for construction services, including technical specifications for utility-grade components. (Master Service Agreement and Engineering, Procurement and Construction agreement experience is critical.)
• Supplier Performance and Development:
• Develop and maintain a strategic supply base and create competitive supplier networks.
• Identify high-potential suppliers with proven track records in utility-scale projects, grid interconnection, and renewable energy installations.
• Develop KPIs for EPC contractors with a focus on quality standards required for grid interconnection.
• Conduct spend segmentation of assigned categories to identify tail spend and cost savings opportunities across the enterprise.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration:
• Collaborate with various internal Tesla energy deployment teams to ensure that electrical infrastructure requirements meet project specifications.
• Identify potential supply chain risks in utility electrical equipment markets that could affect deployment timelines.
• Communicate findings on grid equipment availability and EPC capacity to senior leadership.
• Partner with internal stakeholders to ensure customer goals are met while optimizing project margins via strategic sourcing.

Requirements

Education & Industry Background:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Business, Supply Chain, or equivalent experience in utility/renewable energy sectors.
• 5+ years of experience in utility procurement, renewable energy project sourcing, electrical equipment supply chain, or utility EPC management. Prior construction management or project management experience with supply chain exposure to be considered.
• Preferred: Master's degree or MBA

Industry-Specific Experience:

• Direct experience within utility and/or renewable energy industry.
• Understanding of utility procurement processes, expectations and timelines.
• Experience collaborating with various engineering, customer, and regional requirements at both project and program levels.
• Core Competencies:
• Ability to solve complex problems and make quick decisions in fast-moving renewable energy project environments.
• Deep understanding of electrical infrastructure supply chains and utility market dynamics.
• Proficient with Excel, PowerPoint, and large-scale ERP platforms, particularly purchasing ERPs.
• Willingness to travel (10+%) to electrical equipment manufacturing facilities and utility project sites.
