As Google's products and services scale the globe, the Strategic Negotiation team works behind the scenes to secure infrastructure for Google's future -- everything from underwater cables to physical data center space. As a Strategic Negotiator, you combine your deep market knowledge of a given sector with tech industry savvy to negotiate cost-effective solutions to support Google's infrastructure growth. You'll work with specific project teams on negotiating deals, managing vendor and partner relationships and presenting deal recommendations to our Tech leadership. Your successful negotiations have the potential to save Google millions of dollars in operating costs and impact every part of the business.

In this role, focused on the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), you will be part of the team responsible for Google’s global energy portfolio, where you will work at the forefront of some of the most challenging energy and infrastructure issues of the day.
As a Strategic Negotiator - Energy Regulatory and Policy, you will lead energy regulatory initiatives at FERC to ensure cost-effective power supplies, maintain a path for growth for our data centers, and meet our ambitious 24/7 carbon-free energy goals. In this role, you will help to drive energy-related strategy development and execution, lead individual strategic initiatives and projects, work with teams across the company in support of Google's energy portfolio, and advocate before energy regulators, stakeholders, and decision-makers.

Responsibilities
- Establish, execute, and oversee Google's overarching strategy and regulatory posture before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), proactively managing regulatory proceedings across our growing energy infrastructure portfolio.
- Lead strategic evaluations of federal regulatory environments, policies, and wholesale rulemakings, analyzing emerging market design evolutions to assess risk and optimize Google's speed-to-power initiatives.
- Design and execute regulatory filings and approvals before FERC, leading interventions, declarations, and authorizations required for asset acquisitions, project structures, and innovative commercial power arrangements.
- Partner cross-functionally with Legal, Government Affairs and Public Policy, Energy Commercial, and Finance leaders to de-risk innovative commercial structures, ensuring new power delivery models align with federal regulatory requirements.
- Lead regulatory oversight across complex commercial transactions and utility interconnections, translating intricate federal policies into clear commercial roadmaps that mitigate risk, prevent interconnection bottlenecks, and accelerate speed to power.
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Energy Policy, Engineering, Law, Economics, Business, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 10 years of experience leading negotiations or business development.
- 8 years of experience in energy regulatory policy, wholesale electricity market design, or energy market development.
- 5 years of experience leading regulatory proceedings, interventions, filings, or compliance initiatives before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).
- 3 years of experience in people management or team leadership within the energy or infrastructure sectors.
Preferred qualifications:
- Deep expertise in the Federal Power Act, wholesale power market rules, transmission planning and interconnection, utility structures, and evolving federal energy policy.
- Expert knowledge of key stakeholders, regulatory frameworks, wholesale market rules, and emerging policy trends at FERC and across the federal energy landscape.
- Demonstrated cross-functional leadership and stakeholder influence, with executive presence, strong project management, and exceptional communication skills to translate complex regulatory matters for leadership.
- Proven success leading regulatory interventions, filings, and advocacy before FERC, partnering with internal teams, outside counsel, and industry coalitions to secure strategic outcomes.
