Description

The Optimus START program is an intensive humanoid robot service and diagnostics training program designed for candidates with existing technical experience in electrical, electromechanical, robotics, automotive, or a related field. During the program, candidates will develop diagnostic expertise on Optimus subsystems and earn program certifications through a blended approach of in-class theory, hands-on labs, and self-paced learning. Candidates will strengthen soft skills through team-based troubleshooting and structured documentation practices.

Responsibilities

  • Dedicate a minimum of 40 hours per week to training, including active participation in lab shadowing and hands-on diagnostic work alongside Optimus engineering and technician teams
  • Engage in instructor-led training to develop a comprehensive understanding of Optimus robot subsystems, including electrical systems, electromechanical assemblies, sensors, actuators, and communication networks. Practice systematic diagnostics and troubleshooting using multimeters, oscilloscopes, and other lab tools under supervised conditions
  • Collaborate within a team environment during both lab and lecture activities
  • Follow established diagnostic workflows; practice capturing data, documenting findings, and contributing to troubleshooting records with clarity and consistency
  • Prioritize safety by adhering to established lab and high-voltage protocols at all times by ensuring proper tooling and equipment management
  • Effectively handle multiple priorities, organize workload, and meet weekly curriculum objectives and deadlines
  • Uphold a consistent and professional rapport with instructors, engineering mentors, and technical peers

Requirements

  • Attend and pass each of the week training sessions with an 80% or higher GPA
  • Valid driver’s license required, and must be capable of reporting to the Optimus START training location
  • Must be willing to accept full-time employment as an Engineering Technician, Optimus (or equivalent Optimus service/diagnostics role) within 30 days of graduation from the program
  • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds
  • Familiar understanding of the English language; basic computer skills, including navigating web browsers and using standard applications such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Hands-on technical background preferred in one or more of the following: electrical diagnostics, electronics, mechatronics, robotics, automotive repair, aerospace, manufacturing, or a related field
  • Comfort working with basic electrical concepts (voltage, current, continuity) and willingness to learn schematic reading, wiring diagrams, and structured troubleshooting
  • Experience with multimeters or other basic diagnostic tools preferred; exposure to oscilloscopes, CAN, Ethernet, motor controls, or sensors is a plus
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to document work clearly; familiarity with Jira, Confluence, or similar tools is a plus, along with an nterest in learning Python, Linux, or basic scripting for diagnostic support is preferred but not required

Expected Compensation

$30.00 - $30.00/hour + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
