CONTEXT
Cloud computing, blockchain smart contracts and online applications dealing with massive data are commonplace today. Nevertheless, it remains important to preserve data privacy during the end-to-end process, which is proving to be a complex task. Homomorphic encryption is one way of solving this problem. But performance is the main bottleneck preventing its widespread deployment. On the other hand, IoT devices are increasingly deployed in the field and are becoming increasingly powerful.
So much so, that we're seeing the emergence of embedded artificial intelligence and hardware-accelerated embedded neural networks. Of course, the problem of maintaining the privacy of the data being manipulated remains. Hardware acceleration is undoubtedly the key to success for the advent of homomorphic cryptography in this field of application, and particularly the acceleration of fully homomorphic cryptography over the torus (TFHE). TFHE offers a bootstrapping function that makes it easy to implement a univariate function using a LUT, which is perfectly suited to implement activation functions used in neural networks.
YOUR ROLE
Within an R&D team specialized in security, this 6-month internship will focus on developing hardware acceleration exclusively for TFHE encryption and decryption with a particular attention to communication with the CPU and its optimization. A prototype will be implemented on an FPGA SoC, enabling a comparison between the performance of a purely software-based implementation and one using the accelerator. As a result, some embedded software will also need to be developed.
YOUR SKILLS & EXPERIENCES
- Final year of a Master’s degree in Microelectronics and Chip Design
- Knowledge of Hardware Description Language (HDL) and embedded software development (C language)
- Knowledge of Xilinx Zynq is a plus
- Good level of written and spoken English (CV and cover letter in English)
Below is the French version.
CONTEXTE
