Staff Test Automation Engineer (Python) - Cork, Ireland
Company:
QT Technologies Ireland LimitedJob Area:
Engineering Group, Engineering Group > ASICS EngineeringGeneral Summary:
About the Team
You will join Qualcomm's Test & Verification Engineering team, a group that plays a critical role in delivering reliable, high-quality AI and system software across Qualcomm platforms.
The team designs and maintains automated testing, verification, and CI/CD infrastructure used by machine learning, systems, and embedded engineering teams across the company. Our work enables engineers to move fast while maintaining quality, scale, and reliability at a global level.
About the Role
This is a hands-on senior technical leadership role for an engineer who remains deeply technical and actively engaged in the code, owning quality, making architectural decisions, and understanding the limitations of what is being built, whether authored by hand or with AI assistance. You will personally drive the design and delivery of test infrastructure and verification systems and set the technical direction for how AI and embedded software products are validated at scale. This is not a management or purely advisory position. Your impact comes from technical depth and the leadership you demonstrate through doing.
You will be a force multiplier for the team, unblocking others, raising the quality bar, and influencing how engineering teams across Qualcomm think about testing and verification. You bring deep technical judgment and the ability to identify problems that haven't been articulated yet, then drive solutions to completion.
What You Will Drive
- Define the architecture and long-term strategy for large-scale automated test systems supporting real-world AI and embedded software products
- Identify systemic quality and reliability gaps across CI/CD infrastructure and drive initiatives to resolve them
- Establish technical standards, patterns, and best practices that are adopted across teams
- Evaluate and introduce modern tooling, including AI-assisted workflows, that measurably improves developer productivity and system reliability
- Lead cross-functional efforts that span software, ML, infrastructure, and systems teams in Ireland and globally
Key Responsibilities
- Architect, design, and personally deliver automated test and verification systems for complex software products
- Own the technical direction of Python-based test automation frameworks used across CI/CD pipelines
- Drive improvements to CI infrastructure (e.g. Jenkins) at a systems level, covering pipeline design, reliability, observability, and scalability
- Define and lead root cause analysis for systemic failures; implement durable solutions, not workarounds
- Partner with engineering leads across teams to define testing requirements, coverage strategies, and quality gates
- Mentor and technically grow engineers at all levels; conduct design reviews and set the bar for engineering quality
- Communicate technical strategy and trade-offs clearly to both engineering and management stakeholders
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline (Master's preferred)
- 8+ years of hands-on experience in software engineering, test infrastructure, or systems verification
- Strong programming skills in Python; proficiency in at least one systems language (C, C++, etc.)
- Deep experience with CI/CD systems (Jenkins or equivalent) at scale
- Strong Linux systems background
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical initiatives across multiple teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building or owning large-scale test automation frameworks
- Background in embedded systems, hardware bring-up, or device-level testing
- Familiarity with ML concepts, workflows, and tooling (e.g. model training pipelines, inference frameworks, quantization). The team supports ML engineers directly and this knowledge significantly accelerates your ability to contribute
- Track record of defining technical roadmaps and influencing engineering direction beyond immediate team scope
- Experience with containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes) and infrastructure-as-code
- History of mentoring engineers and driving improvements to team engineering culture
