Staff Software Quality Engineer

We are extending the quality foundation of our complex multi-service environment that connects multiple systems, data sources, and workflows at scale achieving real-time intelligence for product transparency, vulnerability operations. As Staff Software Quality Engineer, you are the technical lead and responsible for test automation and quality engineering in several teams. You set the technical direction and strategy for how we test, design and build the automation framework, and guide engineers through hands-on expertise standardized approaches without having line management or reporting lines.

Challenges You Will Solve at Scale

  • Automation at scale: Build reliable, fast, maintainable automation across many services, APIs, and integrations, without flaky tests slowing delivery.
  • Test strategy for a multi-team setup: Define which test levels run where, who owns each, and how the mix shifts from build to pilot to general availability.
  • Distributed and asynchronous systems: Prove correctness of event-driven, long-running workflows under retries, duplicates, partial failure, and recovery.
  • Large-volume, high-trust data: Validate accuracy, completeness, lineage, and access control of product-security data processed in large volumes across multiple stores.
  • Integrations we do not control: Protect compatibility of versioned APIs and external systems through contract and regression testing.
  • Standards as executable tests: CycloneDX, SPDX, VEX, and more as conformance suites in the pipeline.
  • Replacement in flight: Parity testing between old and new components so re-architecture never degrades results in use.
  • Quality without a final gate: Shift testing left into refinement and the Definition of Done so every increment is releasable based on evidence, not schedule pressure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the technical test strategy and risk-based coverage across API, contract, integration, end-to-end, regression, performance, and resilience testing.
  • Own release acceptance from a quality and testing perspective, covering both functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Design, build, and evolve the test automation framework and integrate it into the CI/CD pipeline as fast, reliable quality gates.
  • Write and review automated tests hands-on, and set coding standards and patterns that engineers follow when contributing tests.
  • Embed testability and acceptance criteria in refinement, architecture discussions, and the Definition of Done.
  • Manage test environments and test data so automation runs consistently at scale.
  • Run defect triage, investigate flaky tests and failures across code, environment, data, and integration, and drive root-cause fixes.
  • Provide evidence-based release-readiness input using automation results, quality indicators, and known risks.
  • Mentor engineers technically and promote quality as a shared Scrum Team responsibility.

Required Skills

  • Experience: 8+ years in quality engineering or test automation for complex, distributed platforms, including acting as the technical lead for testing.
  • Test automation: Designing maintainable API, contract, integration, end-to-end, UI, and regression automation integrated with CI/CD.
  • Distributed systems testing: Validating asynchronous and event-driven workflows, idempotency, retries, failure modes, and recovery.
  • Data and non-functional testing: Testing data transformations and large-volume processing, plus performance, scalability, and resilience.
  • Programming: Strong coding skills in Python, TypeScript, Java, or a comparable language; confident with SQL and APIs.
  • Tooling: GitLab CI/CD or similar, Playwright or Cypress, API testing tools, and load-testing tools.
  • Cloud and observability: Testing AWS-based services and diagnosing issues using logs, metrics, and traces.
  • Communication: Influencing engineers and stakeholders without formal authority, explaining quality risk clearly, and excellent English.

Nice to have

  • Product security domain: Testing SBOM, CBOM, VEX, vulnerability-management, or software-composition-analysis platforms.
  • Standards: Familiarity with CycloneDX, SPDX, PURL, CPE, the EU Cyber Resilience Act, or IEC 62443.
  • Search and graph testing: Validating graph databases, OpenSearch, or Elasticsearch at scale.
  • AI-enabled systems: Testing model-assisted workflows, evaluation datasets, and human-in-the-loop controls.
  • Certifications: ISTQB Advanced Test Automation Engineering, AWS, or comparable credentials.

What do we offer?

  • Hybrid work model that supports flexibility and a sustainable work–life balance.
  • An environment where everyone can bring their whole self to work and feel a sense of belonging.
  • A workplace that values curiosity and guarantees continuous learning, with development opportunities for both personal and professional growth.
  • Share matching programs to become a shareholder of Siemens AG.
  • A wide range of flexible benefits for you and your family to enjoy
