Staff Software Engineer, Robotaxi & Optimus

Description

Robotaxi is now operating commercially and the systems behind it have to grow with our ambitious plans. Join a small team of experts building and scaling the server-side platform that powers Robotaxi and Optimus: the connectivity, customer control, orchestration, and operation services behind millions of vehicles and robots. 

This is a hands-on technical leadership role. You will set technical direction for core systems, drive the roadmap for a portfolio of services, and remain a direct contributor in code and design. You will work with world-class engineers and cross-functional teams, with direct impact on the Tesla product roadmap and mission. 

We are hiring at the Staff and Senior Staff levels. 

Responsibilities

• Set architecture and technical direction for mission-critical, high-availability systems and APIs, with a focus on security, scalability, and performance 

• Lead design and delivery of multi-quarter initiatives that span teams 

• Drive roadmaps to completion with Product, SRE, and Infrastructure 

• Stay hands-on: design, code, review, and operate the systems you own 

• Mentor engineers and raise the technical bar across the team 

• Solve hard problems in distributed, asynchronous messaging at fleet scale 

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience 

• 8+ years building and operating large-scale distributed systems 

• Track record of technically leading engineering teams to deliver complex systems and products 

• Direct technical contributions in your current role, in code and design 

• Deep expertise in web services, distributed systems, and messaging, Go preferred 

• Demonstrated success scaling web applications or messaging systems 

• Clear communication of complex technical concepts to a wide audience 

• Experience with web security is a plus

Expected Compensation

$208,000 - $360,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
