Staff/Principal Data Scientist - Smart Manufacturing and AI
Our vision is to transform how the world uses information to enrich life for all.
Micron Technology is a world leader in innovating memory and storage solutions that accelerate the transformation of information into intelligence, inspiring the world to learn, communicate and advance faster than ever.
About the team
The Smart Manufacturing & AI (SMAI) team uses data science, machine learning and AI to improve yield in Micron's front-end memory fabs. We work closely with yield, process, integration and equipment engineers on DRAM, NAND and HBM technologies. Our job is to turn huge amounts of fab data into decisions that raise yield, speed up learning on new technology nodes and reduce manufacturing cost.
We are a global team spanning Taiwan, Singapore, Japan and the US.
The role
We are looking for an experienced data scientist to lead complex yield analytics and machine learning projects. You will work with engineering partners to define problems, build and deploy models into production, and measure their impact on yield and cost. As a senior member of the team, you will also set technical direction, review others' work and mentor junior data scientists.
What you will do
- Work with yield and process engineering to find root causes of yield loss and excursions, using wafer, die, inline metrology, defect, equipment (FDC) and electrical test data.
- Build and deploy ML/AI solutions. Develop models for virtual metrology, yield prediction, anomaly and excursion detection, wafer-map pattern recognition and process optimization, and take them from prototype to production.
- Apply GenAI and agentic AI. Explore and deliver LLM- and agent-based tools that speed up engineering analysis, root-cause investigation and knowledge reuse..
- Communicate impact. Present findings and recommendations clearly to engineers and senior management, and quantify their business value.
What you bring
Required
- Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science or a related field.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience applying data science or machine learning to real-world problems
- Solid foundation in statistics, experimental design and machine learning
- Proven track record of deploying models to production and driving measurable business impact.
- Excellent communication skills. You can explain complex analyses to non-specialist audiences.
Preferred
- Experience in semiconductor manufacturing, especially front-end yield, process integration, defect or metrology.
- Familiarity with fab data systems and data
- Experience with computer vision and deep learning.
- Hands-on experience with LLMs, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) or agentic AI frameworks.
- Experience mentoring or technically leading other data scientists.
