The opportunity

At Unity, we power the world’s most creative and immersive gaming experiences - and our Ads SDK Team is at the forefront of helping game developers turn their passion into a thriving business. Our mission is to build cutting-edge monetization solutions that give publishers full transparency and control in their revenue strategies.

We’re redefining what’s possible with next-gen ad technology, building an end-to-end monetization stack that dynamically adapts to different players and gaming experiences. From real-time optimizations and intelligent player segmentation to new interactive ad formats, we’re creating tools that don’t just boost revenue but enhance engagement and player experience.

We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer specializing in iOS to help shape the architecture and future of the Unity Ads SDK. This role will have deep ownership of our iOS SDK, while working closely with engineers across both iOS and Android. We are looking for someone who is deeply experienced with iOS and comfortable working with and understanding Android code and concepts when projects or technical decisions span both platforms.

At the Staff level, you will help drive technical direction, solve complex problems end-to-end, and improve the architecture, reliability, performance, and developer experience of our SDK. This is a hands-on technical leadership role with impact beyond the code you personally write.

What you'll be doing

  • Lead the technical direction of our iOS SDK, owning the architecture and implementation of major SDK initiatives
  • Design and build high-quality SDK components in Swift, focused on performance, reliability, maintainability, and backwards compatibility
  • Partner with Android engineers on shared SDK architecture, APIs, and features, reading Android implementations when projects span both platforms
  • Own complex projects end to end, from problem definition and technical design through rollout, measurement, and iteration
  • Solve challenging production issues involving app lifecycle, concurrency, memory, networking, rendering, WebViews, and host-app interactions
  • Improve SDK initialization, ad loading and rendering performance, memory usage, binary size, crash rates, observability, and release safety
  • Mentor engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and hands-on collaboration, while proactively surfacing architectural risks and opportunities to improve

What we're looking for

  • Deep expertise building and shipping production iOS software
  • Expert-level knowledge of Swift and strong familiarity with Objective-C
  • Deep understanding of iOS app lifecycle, memory management, concurrency, networking, rendering, and performance optimization
  • Experience designing and maintaining SDKs, frameworks, or libraries embedded in third-party apps, including API design, backwards compatibility, versioning, dependency management, and release practices
  • Working knowledge of Android development concepts and the ability to navigate Kotlin/Java code
  • Experience diagnosing complex production problems using profiling, crash reporting, logs, and metrics
  • Track record of leading technically complex projects across multiple engineers or teams, with effective written and verbal communication that influences technical direction

You might also have

  • Experience building mobile advertising, monetization, mediation, or measurement SDKs
  • Experience with WKWebView and native-to-web communication, or with StoreKit, SKAdNetwork, attribution, and privacy APIs
  • Experience with Unity Engine or other game engines
