Staff DevOps Engineer

Job Description:

We are looking for dedicated Platform and Site Reliability engineers to help build the next generation of engineering services at Arm.

Engineering IT supplies the tools and systems needed for the creation of our software and hardware IP. Within this group, the Engineering Platform Services function provides tooling used across the company’s engineering population, as well as focusing on the tooling needs of software engineers.

Our roadmap focuses on developing scalable platform services and self-service capabilities that simplify engineering workflows and improve developer productivity.

As a Staff Engineer at Arm, you will own technical deliveries, with responsibility from requirements through to planning, implementation, and delivery. You will provide technical leadership while remaining hands-on in software design, development, testing, deployment, and operation.

You will participate in production support and our paid on-call rota for high impact incident response.

Responsibilities:

Working hands-on with a variety of technologies, to provide a first-class engineering experience for Arm's hardware and software engineers. The domains and areas include:

• Design, develop, test, and operate APIs and platform services.
• Build Kubernetes operators and automation that enable self-service engineering workflows.
• Deploy and operate reliable, secure, and scalable workloads.
• Use Terraform to provision and manage cloud infrastructure.
• Integrate with engineering platforms and tools such as GitLab, Backstage, and Artifactory.
• Apply strong software engineering practices, including automated testing, code review, observability, and secure development.
• Lead major engineering initiatives and collaborate with engineering teams across Arm.

Our varied activities involve development, and operational work. We support and guide the engineering community on how best to utilise the services we offer. Developments range from minor improvements to multi-month strategic projects. We invest significant time collaborating with other engineering teams at Arm.

Required Skills and Experience:

• Extensive knowledge of cloud services, with experience running production workloads in AWS or another major cloud platform.
• Strong software engineering experience using Go, Python, or similar languages.
• Experience designing, developing, testing, and operating APIs and backend services.
• Practical knowledge of Terraform and infrastructure as code.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, ArgoCD and CI/CD technologies.
• Understanding of software engineering practices, including automated testing, code review, observability, and secure development.
• Ability to lead technical projects and communicate engineering decisions clearly.

“Nice To Have” Skills and Experience:

• Experience developing Kubernetes operators or controllers.
• Knowledge of GitLab internals, administration, APIs, and integrations.
• Familiarity with software supply-chain security and SAST tooling.
• Understanding of Site Reliability Engineering, incident management, and production support!

Salary Range:

$198,100-$268,000 per year
