BIOS RAS SME

THE ROLE

AMD is looking for a highly motivated BIOS RAS Subject Matter Expert (SME) to join the Embedded x86 Validation Team. In this role, you will lead end-to-end validation, debug, and enablement of Reliability, Availability, and Serviceability (RAS) features across next-generation Embedded x86 Programs.

You will partner with Architecture, BIOS, Firmware, Silicon Design, Product Engineering, and Validation teams to ensure industry-leading quality, reliability, and resiliency of AMD products. The ideal candidate possesses deep expertise in x86 platform architecture, BIOS/UEFI, memory subsystems, and system-level RAS validation.

The successful candidate is passionate about platform quality and enjoys solving complex system-level challenges. You are a technical leader who thrives in cross-functional environments and has a proven track record in BIOS, firmware, silicon, or platform validation.

You possess strong analytical and debugging skills and are comfortable driving technical discussions across architecture, development, validation, and customer-facing teams.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Own validation strategy and quality sign-off for BIOS-driven RAS features across AMD APU platforms.
Define feature coverage plans, validation methodologies, and automation strategies for RAS testing.
Validate system resiliency, error detection, error containment, recovery, and reporting mechanisms.
Drive validation and debug of:

Memory ECC
MCA architecture
Error injection frameworks
PCIe Advanced Error Reporting (AER)
Platform-first and OS-first error handling
Watchdog, reset, and recovery mechanisms

Collaborate with BIOS, Firmware, Silicon Design, Architecture, and Customer Engineering teams to diagnose and resolve complex platform issues.
Develop and execute automated regression suites to improve validation coverage and efficiency.
Analyze failures, perform root cause investigations, and drive resolution through closure.
Define quality metrics and release readiness criteria for program milestones.
Mentor engineers and contribute to best practices across the validation organization. These responsibilities align with internal AMD RAS validation expectations and platform quality ownership.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

8+ years of experience in BIOS, Firmware, System Validation, Platform Validation, or related fields.
Strong understanding of:

x86 architecture
BIOS/UEFI
DDR4/DDR5 memory architecture
ECC mechanisms
Reliability and error-handling architectures
PCIe and advanced I/O subsystems

Experience with silicon bring-up, platform enablement, and production-quality validation.
Hands-on experience with system debug tools, error injection frameworks, and log analysis.
Strong knowledge of Linux-based validation environments.
Experience using Jira, source control systems, and validation automation frameworks.

Proficiency in Python or similar scripting languages for automation.

Academic Credentials

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field required.
Master’s degree preferred.
Equivalent industry experience may be considered where applicable.
