Description

Tesla's Wireless Hardware team is responsible for Cellular, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, UWB, NFC, and GNSS across all vehicle programs and Robot.

Our products present one of the most challenging RF integration environments in mass production. Multiple radios operate concurrently within a metal enclosure, in close proximity to high-speed digital, displays, power conversion, motors, and high-voltage powertrain, with severe constraints on antenna placement and isolation.

This role owns receiver desense and multi-radio coexistence performance at the platform level. You will identify the source of interference and integration failures — such as GNSS degradation coincident with display activity, or phone key disruption during cellular transmission — and drive corrective action into the hardware design. This is a senior ownership position with architectural authority, not a validation execution role.

Responsibilities

  • Own platform-level desense performance. Define the noise budget that all other subsystems must meet, and enforce it through design review and validation
  • Own coexistence architecture across co-located radios, including spectrum sharing, arbitration, and priority behavior between concurrent radio operations
  • Evaluate and arbitrate system-level tradeoffs across cellular throughput, audio performance, phone key latency, and GNSS accuracy, supported by measured data
  • Establish RF and antenna placement, isolation, and layout constraints, and represent those requirements in floorplan, mechanical, and PCB design reviews prior to layout freeze
  • Design, bring up, and debug cellular RF hardware through validation and into high-volume production
  • Drive root cause and permanent corrective action across Hardware, Firmware, Mechanical, Manufacturing, and supplier teams
  • Define desense and coexistence methodology, design guidelines, and validation criteria applied across programs, and provide technical mentorship to engineers on RF integration and debug

Requirements

  • 10+ years of RF/microwave design experience spanning cellular, Wi-Fi/BT, UWB, and GNSS, including multiple products delivered into high-volume manufacturing
  • Demonstrated ownership of desense and multi-radio coexistence performance on shipped products
  • Strong receiver and RF system fundamentals, with the ability to analyze interference mechanisms and predict their impact on system performance
  • Extensive hands-on laboratory capability, including test automation and data analysis
  • Experience designing for environmental constraints, regulatory compliance, and EMC/EMI, ESD, and transient debug
  • Proven effectiveness in a matrix organization, including the ability to justify and drive hardware changes that carry cost and schedule impact to other teams
  • Automotive or robotics experience with powertrain, charging, or motor-induced interference affecting co-located radios preferred
  • Antenna design and placement experience, including electromagnetic simulation correlated to measured results preferred
  • Signal integrity and power integrity experience preferred
  • Chamber-based and over-the-air test methodology development preferred
