We are seeking Senior Mechanical Engineers to lead mechanical design efforts for groundbreaking Engineering-Procurement-Construction (EPC) projects. In this role, you will be the primary mechanical engineer for the design and engineering efforts to support construction of infrastructure development, from concept level to production.

Responsibilities

  • Develop mechanical design and concept evaluations and decision matrix, leading to development of construction drawings for permit and construction document. Manage multiple projects throughout planning, design, bid, and construction phases
  • Interface with external Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) firms during bid and project execution phases as needed to ensure that designs and specifications meet our engineering standard
  • Make technical assumptions, think independently to complete assigned work, and draw conclusions based on engineering judgement, evidence, and calculation
  • Effectively and proactively communicate project needs, changes, and status to internal and external team members. Develop and mentor less experienced engineering staff
  • Present design concepts and progress at project milestones (30%, 60%, 90%, IFC) design reviews to stakeholders and multi-discipline teams
  • Able to develop quantity take-offs and assist with cost estimating for projects in a timely manner
  • Apply engineering fundamentals and a broad set of mechanical engineering tools to solve technical problems and create novel detailed designs for a wide range of mechanical and process systems
  • Review and develop designs that are cost effective, constructable, code compliant while meeting Tesla’s quality and schedule requirements
  • Work with various manufacturing, construction, commissioning, and facilities stakeholders. Uncover end user needs and deliver results that meet the collective team’s needs. Resolving design issues creatively and thoroughly coordinating design with other disciplines
  • Coordinate work with all other disciplines and ensure fully coordinated design package provided for construction

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience. Registered and in good standing as a Professional Engineer (PE) with active NCEES record and ability to acquire State PE license
  • Minimum 8 years of HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, and process systems design experience
  • Professional design experience in a wide range of project types including industrial ventilation, chiller plants, boiler plants, offices, mission critical/data centers, high tech/R&D, bio-tech/pharmaceutical
  • Fundamental understanding of mechanical equipment such as: Dehumidification Units, Air Scrubbers, Dust Collectors, Heat Exchangers, Chillers, Cooling Towers, Pumps, Compressors, process gas/fluid systems, Air Handling Units, Terminal Units, Fans / Blowers, Pumps, Control Valves and Instrumentation, Hazardous Exhaust, Heat Recovery Systems
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards related to facilities engineering. Including International Codes Council (ICC) Suite of Codes (including Building, Mechanical, Plumbing, Energy Conservation, Fuel Gas, and Fire Codes), ASHRAE Handbooks / Standards, SMACNA Standards, NFPA Standards, related ASME, ANSI, and AMCA codes
  • Proficient in the use of various computer programs such as HVAC load calculations in HAP, Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, Revit, Revisto, and Navisworks
  • Understanding and experience in controls and generating points list, alarm matrix and crafting the sequences of operation
  • Construction administration experience including site feasibility study report, progress report, review of RFIs, and shop drawings
  • Direct experience in the preparation of mechanical contract drawings and engineering specifications
  • Mentoring less experienced engineers and reviewing their work and accepting responsibility for the scopes managed
