Sr. Manufacturing Technical Specialist Engineer
The Manufacturing Technical Specialist (MTS) team is part of the Quality and Advanced Manufacturing Engineering organization in Operations. It consists of subject-matter experts who partner closely with other cross-functional technical experts and teams. These collaborations create state-of-the-art solutions within the Hardware and Product Design space. The MTS team focuses on process optimization and on introducing unique capabilities and/or materials to enable mass production deployment across all Amazon devices.

Job Summary
In addition to having a deep and broad understanding of materials science and engineering principles, the ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of adhesives, their chemical structure, properties, and processing. Additionally, they will have had direct experience in most or all of the following:
- adhesive and polymer selection and related considerations in product design (required)
- interfacial modifications to enhance bonding
- materials characterization and testing methods
- device manufacturing and assembly operations at contract manufacturers, including hands-on experience with the full range of dispensers
- process development at lab and manufacturing scale
- failure analysis and root-cause determination at all stages of product life cycle (development, processing/manufacturing, customer or field issues)
- technical interactions with materials suppliers
Key job responsibilities
In this role, you will
- Work on complex problems where no current best practices exist, developing innovative solutions that resound across product categories.
- Apply materials science/engineering principles and expertise to solve important materials-related issues, creating internal mechanisms to reliably prevent recurrence (e.g., procedures, documentation, training, communications).
- Engage with product teams during various stages of development, demonstrating a clear understanding and assessment of the customer impact for high-risk items, issues, and failures
- Write precise, high-quality technical documents and executive summaries, communicating across organizational groups and management levels, explaining key issues, conclusions, and recommendations in a manner appropriate to each audience.

Basic Qualifications
- Masters in Materials Science/Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related technical field (e.g., Mechanical Engineering, with a materials-related focus). A Bachelor’s of Science in the same with relevant experience also considered.
- A minimum of 10+ years of relevant work experience in a manufacturing environment, including consumer electronics.
- Demonstrable background and mastery of polymer science and engineering fundamentals
- Authoritative knowledge in materials characterization and testing methods including surface science, spectroscopy & microscopy tools, etc. Expertise in using analytical instruments to diagnose issues and root-cause failures (DSC, TGA, DMA, FTIR, rheometry, and the like).
- Direct experience in dispensing a wide variety of glues, thermal gels, form-in-place gaskets, and sealants
- High proficiency in using statistical tools and methods such as statistical process control, Gauge R&R, Process Capability, and Design of Experiments. Use of JMP or Minitab software is required.
- Familiarity with intellectual property processes such as patent disclosures, trade secrets, and non-disclosure agreements.
Preferred Qualifications
