Job Description

 The Sales Engineer is a critical member of the Visa Acceptance Solutions (CyberSource) – North America team, partnering with the Direct Sales organization to deliver tailored technical solutions to merchants. This role blends strategic sales acumen with deep technical expertise, owning the technical sales cycle from discovery through proof-of-value and solution validation.    

As a key contributor to merchant success, you will conduct technical discovery calls, deliver proof-of-value demonstrations, perform product deep-dives, showcase API-based integrations, create architecture diagrams, and author technical best practices. You will collaborate closely with teams across Direct Sales & Account Management, Product & Solution Management, Solution Architecture, Implementation Support, Client Services, and Marketing to relay market feedback and industry trends.

Responsibilities: 

Sales Process Support 

Maintain expert knowledge of Visa Acceptance Solutions (VAS), CyberSource, and Authorize.net solutions. 

Collaborate with the Direct Sales team to acquire new merchants and drive up-sell/cross-sell opportunities. 

Conduct technical discovery sessions to capture requirements, pain points, and success criteria. 

Personalize and deliver presentations, architectural diagrams, and proof-of-value demonstrations to technical and executive audiences. 

Provide ongoing technical guidance throughout the sales cycle to support deal closure.  

Solution Architecture & Technical Demonstrations 

Design merchant payment ecosystems that address both business and technical needs. 

Execute REST APIs in Postman, demonstrate Webhook events, and run open-source code via VS Code and GitHub. 

Leverage AI/NLP technologies for innovative proof-of-value demonstrations. 

Create technical validation documents and detailed solution requirements for implementation teams.  

Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing 

Partner with internal teams (Solution Management, Product Management, Technical Account Managers, Customer Support, Implementation Services, Product Marketing) to relay market feedback and influence solution design. 

Participate in internal and client-facing calls, document detailed notes, and maintain meticulous records in Microsoft Dynamics CRM and SharePoint. 

Contribute to RFI/RFP responses and internal process innovation using AI tools. Share best practices and mentor team members to elevate overall performance. 

This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in office will be confirmed by your hiring manager.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

8 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor Degree or at least 5 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 2 years of work experience with a PhD

7+ years of technical pre-sales experience in the payments industry. 

Proven ability to present and connect with executives, engineers, and technical stakeholders. 

Experience architecting technical solutions to meet merchant requirements. 

Strong communication skills and ability to articulate complex concepts clearly. 

Highly organized, with exceptional note-taking and CRM upkeep. 

Technical background including BS in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or related discipline. 

Willingness to travel up to 35%. 

Positive attitude, curiosity, and commitment to continuous learning. 

Preferred Qualifications

9 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor's Degree or 7 or more relevant years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 3 or more years of experience with a PhD

Experience working directly with merchants in enterprise payment environments. 

Familiarity with CyberSource and Visa Acceptance Solutions. 

Background in integrating payments solutions into complex merchant ecosystems. 

Proficiency with AI tools for productivity and solution innovation. 

Information for US Applicants

For roles located in the US, the estimated salary range for this position is $199,900.00 to $ 320,000.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.Visa has a comprehensive benefits package for which this position may be eligible that includes Medical, Dental, Vision, 401(k), FSA/HSA, Life Insurance, Paid Time Off, and Wellness Program.

Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements

This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements

This position will be performed in an office setting. The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.
