Tesla is seeking a Sr. Instructional Designer – Training to support Tesla – Energy manufacturing operations at a massive 100 GW site. This role will partner with Sr. Technical Program Manager, Content Creators, Engineering and Operations leaders to strengthen onboarding and operations training. You will design and develop high-quality, engaging learning solutions. This role must be an expert at applying adult learning theory, instructional design models (such as ADDIE), and best practices to create effective training solutions across modalities (e-learning, instructor-led/virtual instructor-led, blended, microlearning, video, etc.). 

This role involves greater autonomy, personal leadership on complex projects, mentoring junior developers, designers, content creators, stakeholder consultation, quality oversight, and alignment of learning initiatives with organizational goals.  

This role is core to Tesla’s mission of accelerating the world’s transition to building a world of amazing abundance. This role reports to the Sr. Manager, Learning and Organizational Development and be a key driver of best-in-class learning solutions.  

Responsibilities

  • Conduct needs analysis, learner/task analysis, and requirements gathering with stakeholders and subject matter experts (SMEs)
  • Design and develop learning solutions: course outlines, learning objectives, storyboards, scripts, e-learning modules, facilitator/participant guides, assessments, job aids, videos, simulations, and multimedia assets. Materials must be visually consistent with SCORM, ADA/ Section 508 compliant
  • Partner with Engineers, SMEs, media developers, trainers, and operations leaders to create content that drives performance improvement
  • Manage end-to-end instructional design projects (from analysis through evaluation), including timelines, resources, and stakeholder communication
  • Evaluate learning effectiveness using metrics, assessments, and feedback; iterate for continuous improvement
  • Stay current with learning trends, technologies (including AI tools for content development), and adult learning research
  • Build and execute change-management plans in partnership with Sr. Technical Program Manager for process and tool rollouts; partner with trainers and operations to communicate clearly, sequence adoption, and reduce change fatigue

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Instructional Design, Education, Educational Technology, Curriculum & Instruction, Adult Learning or equivalent experience
  • Experience designing multi-modal learning (e-learning, ILT/VILT, blended). Must provide a strong portfolio of instructional design work and project management skills
  • Able to condense complex problems and situations into simple solutions
  • Familiar with Lean, Six Sigma, or Kaizen to find bottlenecks, run targeted process changes
  • Proficiency with authoring tools (E.g. Articulate Storyline/Rise 360, Adobe Captivate, Camtasia, Vyond, etc.), experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS), and Increasingly: Comfort with AI tools for accelerating content creation
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles, instructional design models, and multimedia development, video editing, basic graphic design, and accessibility standards
  • Must be able to relocate to a final site in Texas and travel internationally if requested
