Description

The Diagnostics Platform team builds the software that keeps Tesla’s clean energy products reliable and high-performing worldwide. We are looking for a Full-Stack Software Engineer to help build the scalable systems and tools that are critical to our mission of accelerating the world’s transition to sustainable energy.

This team is the backbone for the health of Tesla’s energy ecosystem, including Powerwall, Megapack, Solar, and Supercharging. You will design and build end-to-end software, from high-scale backend systems that ingest, process, and analyze data from hundreds of thousands of clean energy assets, to the web applications our engineers and service teams use to diagnose and resolve issues. By automating the processes involved in servicing these assets, you will directly improve the uptime, efficiency, and safety of the technology that is fundamental to building a stable, renewable-powered grid.

We encourage you to apply even if your past experience does not align perfectly with every qualification. We are looking for talented engineers who are passionate about the mission.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and build scalable, distributed systems and web applications that support Tesla’s global fleet of energy products
  • Own features end to end, from data models and APIs through to intuitive, high-performance user interfaces
  • Build tools that help engineers and service teams investigate, diagnose, and resolve issues across energy sites and devices
  • Develop automation that detects problems and drives service workflows, reducing manual effort and time to resolution
  • Develop robust data pipelines for ingesting and processing large streams of diagnostic information in near real time
  • Collaborate with hardware, firmware, service, and operations teams to create a cohesive diagnostic ecosystem that accelerates our ability to service and improve our products
  • Drive the technical vision for the future of energy product diagnostics, focusing on reliability, usability, and scale

Requirements

  • Excellent knowledge of at least one backend language (Go, Rust, Python, Scala, C++, etc.)
  • Excellent knowledge of TypeScript and a modern frontend framework such as React
  • Experience building and operating production web applications and distributed systems at scale
  • Experience designing APIs and relational data models
  • A solid foundation in computer science, with expertise in data structures, algorithms, and system design
  • Strong attention to user experience and performance in data-rich applications
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment
  • Familiarity with event-driven architectures and message queues (e.g., Kafka, NATS)
  • Working knowledge of containerization and orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes, and of CI/CD practices
