Sr. Fullstack Software Engineer, Cloud Platforms
Description
Tesla Cloud Platform (TCP) is Tesla's internal cloud that powers VM, metal, storage, and networking at global scale across multiple datacenters. As a Sr. Full-Stack Software Development Engineer focused on VM as a Service, you will own and drive the control plane that enables Tesla engineers to provision, manage, and operate VMs at scale across Tesla's on-premise infrastructure.This role covers the full stack from Go backend services, hypervisor integration, API design, database schema, and React/Next.js frontend. You will be building the platform that Tesla engineers use to manage their infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Own and develop core VM as a Service backend services including VM lifecycle management, scheduling, placement, and resource distribution
- Build and maintain the hypervisor integration layer (VMware/vSphere, KVM, or similar) for VM provisioning, cluster onboarding, and host operations
- Develop VM group templates, tenant management, and quota enforcement across project, tenant, and zone dimensions
- Build full-stack features using Go, gRPC, PostgreSQL, and React/Next.js for VM creation, VM group management, dashboards, and backoffice tooling
- Own the API layer (REST/gRPC) for VM endpoints
- Develop and maintain background jobs for state synchronization between TCP and the hypervisor layer
- Collaborate with networking, storage, DNS, and identity teams to deliver integrated provisioning workflows
- Participate in the global on-call rotation for production VM services
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional experience in backend development with Go (Golang), including distributed systems and API development
- Experience integrating with hypervisor or virtualization platforms
- Knowledge of VMware vSphere is required and experience with KVM or similar is a plus
- Experience with PostgreSQL including schema design, migrations, and query optimization
- Strong experience with React, Next.js, and TypeScript for building production interfaces
- Experience with gRPC or similar RPC frameworks
- Solid understanding of distributed systems concepts: state synchronization, concurrency, and race condition handling

Expected Compensation
$168,000 - $252,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefitsPay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
