Sr Frontend Engineer (AI Experiences), Retail and Marcom Engineering
Summary
Do you want to help build some of the largest and most consequential enterprise and customer technology systems in the world? Join Apple’s Information Systems and Technology (IS&T) organization. IS&T is the engine behind everything Apple does for customers and for the people who build for them. It’s Apple’s central nervous system. Supporting 2.5 billion active Apple devices, processing billions of secure transactions, and keeping the technology that defines modern life running flawlessly, IS&T makes the impossible feel effortless.
Do you love building solutions to handle global complexity and immense scale? Imagine what you could do here.
Retail and Marcom Engineering, an IS&T team, builds and operates the systems and experiences that connect Apple's products with its customers. The team owns the technology behind both Apple's online and physical stores and drives the interactive marketing experiences and tools that keep creative operations moving. Together, those functions deliver the technology behind every product story Apple tells and every purchase a customer makes.
Description
On Marcom Engineering's AI Experiences team, we build AI-powered tools for Apple's marketing and creative teams, from AI-assisted copy workflows to AI Optimization (AIO), along with the AI foundations that help our engineers, and the AI agents working alongside them, ship on-brand work faster.
We are hiring a Senior Frontend Engineer to build the AI-powered tools our marketing and creative teams use every day, and the AI foundations that change how our engineers ship. You will own features end to end — from interfaces that stream, structure, and explain AI-generated content, to the tooling that helps coding agents build with our design system correctly and on brand. This role sits at the intersection of frontend engineering and applied AI: you'll turn the team's AI direction into shipped work, define the schemas that connect models to UI, and guide the engineers building alongside you. If you thrive on ambiguity, care deeply about user experience, and want to shape how people interact with intelligent systems, we want to hear from you.
Responsibilities
- Build AI-powered interfaces: Design, implement, and ship production-ready React applications for AI-driven tools — streaming responses, structured outputs, conversational flows, and human-in-the-loop review — for the marketing and creative teams who rely on them.
- Define interaction schemas: Collaborate with AI/ML and backend teams to define the data contracts, response formats, and structured output schemas that bridge model capabilities and frontend rendering.
- Find new solutions: Prototype and iterate on novel UI patterns for AI interactions — real-time streaming, progressive disclosure of model reasoning, tool-use feedback, and review-and-approve workflows.
- Build the AI foundations: Build and maintain the tooling that brings AI into how we engineer — AI-assisted code review, release automation, and reusable agent skills in CI/CD — and the agent-facing interfaces (MCP servers, agent-friendly CLIs, machine-readable component metadata) that help coding agents use our design system correctly and on brand.
- Own outcomes: Lead the projects you own from technical design through deployment and iteration, shipping on schedule and improving based on user feedback, usage data, and evaluation results.
- Raise the bar: Lead code reviews, establish best practices for AI-facing frontend development, and create documentation and training on topics like streaming architectures, schema validation, and graceful degradation. Champion healthy adoption of AI-assisted development across the team.
Minimum Qualifications
- 5 years using TypeScript, React, JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, and CSS3 in production applications, including responsive layouts
- 2 years building interfaces that consume AI/ML model outputs (e.g., LLM responses, structured generation, streaming APIs, or real-time inference results)
- Experience with real-time data handling — streaming protocols (SSE, WebSockets, NDJSON/JSONL), incremental rendering, or progressive content delivery
- Experience defining or consuming structured schemas and data contracts (e.g., GraphQL, including federated graphs; JSON Schema; OpenAPI; or TypeBox)
- Experience with application performance optimization techniques or caching solutions
- Knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA) and building inclusive interfaces
- Hands-on experience using AI coding agents (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor) in daily development, with sound judgment in reviewing and integrating generated code
- BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building conversational or chat-based UIs with streaming LLM responses
- Familiarity with AI/ML concepts: prompt engineering, tool use / function calling, structured outputs, embeddings, or RAG architectures
- Experience building agent-facing tooling, such as MCP servers, CLIs designed for agents, or packaged agent skills and instructions
- Experience bringing AI into CI/CD workflows, such as AI-assisted code review, automated release notes, or AI-driven quality gates
- Familiarity with evaluating AI output — evals, golden datasets, or LLM-as-judge scoring
- Experience with design systems, component libraries, or design tokens
- Experience with Next.js (server-side rendering), Node.js, Sass/CSS Modules, Vite, Vitest, Playwright, and Storybook, or similar tools
- Effective communicator who can work across both technical and creative teams
- Experience working in environments with ambiguity — defining the shape of a product as the underlying AI capabilities evolve
