Sr. Energy Cost Reduction Analyst, Charging
Description
Tesla’s Supercharger network is one of the world’s leading fast-charging systems. It supports everyday charging and long-distance travel for Tesla vehicles and other EVs, making affordable, reliable energy access essential to electric mobility.In this role, you will reduce the cost of energy for Tesla’s Charging network across North America and help accelerate the transition to electrified transportation. You will develop analytical tools to identify cost-saving opportunities, support pricing and strategic decisions, and explore new commercial and technology-driven ways to reduce costs. You will also define the energy procurement strategy, lead tenders and contract negotiations, and build strong relationships with energy suppliers and related stakeholders. In parallel, you will work with internal teams on energy policy and regulatory topics at EU and national level.
Responsibilities
- Run rate optimization analyses across thousands of Supercharger and Megacharger sites; identify savings opportunities, benchmark tariff structures, and evaluate commercial and technology-driven levers such as demand response, grid services, and on-site generation to build a scalable cost-reduction strategy
- Lead competitive electricity procurement in deregulated markets—from supplier request for proposal and bid evaluation through contract negotiation and award—and evaluate utility proposals, service agreements, and new rate programs to negotiate terms that lower long-term cost
- Analyze solar and battery storage at Supercharger sites; model bill savings, demand charge reduction, and payback to prioritize deployment, and measure realized savings of installed systems
- Maximize revenue from clean fuel credit programs by identifying eligible sites, tracking enrollment, validating credit models, and quantifying financial impact
- Support rate cases, tariff filings, and energy policy at the federal, state, and utility level, and coordinate with internal teams on related initiatives
- Build dashboards, automated reporting, and accurate site-level cost data to monitor energy costs, credit program performance, and savings against targets; partner with Finance, Deployment, Site Operations, Policy, and Legal to present data-driven recommendations to senior stakeholders
Requirements
- Degree in Engineering, Economics, Energy Systems, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience
- 3+ years of experience in electricity procurement, utility rate analysis, energy markets or trading, or energy consulting
- Strong understanding of North American electricity markets, utility tariffs, and regulation, and the ability to translate them accurately into models
- Hands-on energy and financial modeling skills in Excel, plus Python and SQL; comfortable using AI tools to accelerate analysis
- Ability to manage multiple projects independently in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
- Excellent communication skills; able to distill complex analysis into clear recommendations for diverse audiences
- Experience with battery storage, clean fuel credits, or EV charging infrastructure is a plus

Expected Compensation
$112,000 - $217,200/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefitsPay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
