Role Summary The Electronics Assembly/ PCBA Prototype Technician performs hands-on assembly, testing, and circuit-level troubleshooting for high- and low-voltage electric power conversion systems—including inverters, on-board chargers, AC-to-DC, and DC-to-DC converters. Operating in a prototype and NPI (New Product Introduction) environment, this role collaborates closely with design engineering to diagnose board failures, perform high-reliability PCBA rework to IPC Class 3 standards, build wire harnesses, and document build logs to support smooth transitions into manufacturing Responsibilities Partnering with engineering to troubleshoot board failures and running functional tests using multimeters and power supplies Supporting wire harness builds (IPC-620), maintaining inventory/kitting, documenting build logs, and drafting work instructions to help move prototypes into production Build and solder prototype power electronics (onboard chargers, AC-to-DC, and DC-to-DC converters, and inverters). Perform precision PCBA rework based on engineering dispositions, including trace cuts, soldering components, adding jumper wires, and applying/removing conformal coatings Engineering & Documentation Support: Interpret electrical schematics, assembly drawings, and design specs to assist engineering in mechanical and circuit troubleshooting. Support the development of test fixtures, testing methods, work instructions, and manufacturing routers for product traceability Harnessing & Standards Inspection: Inspect circuit boards per IPC standards (IPC-A-610/J-STD-001) and fabricate wire harness assemblies per IPC/WHMA-A-620C guidelines Manufacturing & Operations: Support factory production during NPI (New Product Introduction) and production transitions. Manage material inventories, kit parts, process shipping/receiving of components, and maintain rework/soldering equipment following preventive maintenance schedules Qualifications Associate degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electronics, or an equivalent technical field Minimum 3+ years of hands-on experience in PCBA assembly, electronic testing, and electro-mechanical prototype environments Hands-on experience performing soldering to IPC Class 3 standards (high-reliability electronic products) Proficiency with IPC-A-610 (Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies) and J-STD-001 (Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies) Practical knowledge of IPC/WHMA-A-620C guidelines for cable and wire harness assembly Hands-on experience working within strict Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) protected areas and protocols Solid command of standard laboratory test gear, including digital multimeters (DMMs), and DC power supplies Proven ability to read and interpret complex electrical schematics, engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and mechanical assembly blueprints Circuit board testing and diagnostic experience, including electro-mechanical control circuits and component specification analysis. Circuit board design experience is a plus Strong verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively across cross-functional departments (Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality) and external vendor/customer contacts Working knowledge of Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets) and JIRA for task tracking and documentation Pay Disclosure The salary range for this role is USD 33.29/hr - 36.99/hr for Southern California based applicants. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors, including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, and organizational needs. The successful candidate may be eligible for annual performance bonus and equity awards.
