Sr. Electrical Engineer
To make electronics, you need chips, wafers, transistors, reticles, and... To make these, you must see, test and manufacture them at scale—faster and better than ever before. That's where KLA comes in. Whether you're early in your career or an experienced professional, you'll solve complex challenges, work alongside brilliant minds and help shape the future of technology.
Group/Division
The Semiconductor Products and Customers (Semi PC) business unit designs, builds and sells KLA’s product portfolio to help chip manufacturers meet high-quality standards for technologies like AI, data centers, automotive and electronic devices. Our inspection, metrology, and analytics systems detect and monitor defects across logic and memory chips, specialty semiconductors, wafers, reticles, advanced packaging, process equipment and materials. We also develop technologies for specialty processes, IC substrates, and PCB manufacturing, including etch and deposition, component inspection, and imaging and analytics. The Film and Scatterometry Technology (FaST) division delivers industry-leading metrology solutions essential to advanced semiconductor manufacturing. Its portfolio includes systems for measuring film thickness, critical dimensions, composition, and resistivity—key to developing and scaling next-gen IC processes. FaST partners closely with customers from early R&D through high-volume production, ensuring performance and process alignment. What You'll Do
In this role, you will play a key part in advancing business priorities by delivering high-impact work across your area of expertise.
Overview of Role
This position is for an Electrical Engineer to support the design and development of semiconductor capital equipment. The position spans development of new products as well as support of existing ones. The role requires strong hands-on electrical design, system integration, and troubleshooting skills in a cross-functional development environment.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Design & Development
- Perform analog and digital electrical design for prototype and production boards, including schematic capture, board bring-up, and validation.
- Own and drive board-level design activities, including power, signal integrity, and mixed-signal interfaces, in collaboration with system and architecture teams.
- Contribute to FPGA-based designs, including requirements definition, integration, and debug at the system level.
Hands-On Electronics Assembly & Integration
- Perform hands-on assembly, integration, and modification of electronic boards and sub-assemblies, including cables, connectors, and harnesses, for prototype and pre-production systems.
- Support mechanical and electrical integration of electronic assemblies at the system level.
- Perform rework, repairs, and hardware modifications as required to support development and validation activities.
Prototype Validation Support
- Perform hands-on electrical work in the clean room on prototype tools, including installation, powerup, performance validation, and debug.
- Support early hardware validation activities, own electrical redesign efforts when required, and implement improvements to enhance robustness and performance.
- Work closely with system engineers during prototype phases to ensure electrical requirements are met.
System Troubleshooting & Escalation Support
- Lead and support troubleshooting of complex board, FPGA, and system-level electrical issues on prototype and pre-production tools.
- Provide escalation support, including root cause analysis and definition of corrective actions.
- Interface directly with cross-functional engineering teams to resolve critical technical issues impacting program milestones.
Program & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Program Managers to define, track, and implement electrical requirements across programs.
- Collaborate with Mechanical, Software, Systems, and Mechatronics teams to ensure successful end-to-end system integration.
- Participate in technical design reviews and clearly communicate electrical trade-offs, risks, and recommendations.
Vendor Interface & Travel
- Interface directly with external vendors to support new hardware development, assembly and integration issues, and design improvements.
- Travel to vendors as needed for troubleshooting, reviews, and hardware qualification activities.
Preferred qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in semiconductor capital equipment or a similar complex electro‑mechanical industry.
- Experience in design and ownership of mixed‑signal PCBs and system-level electrical interfaces.
- Strong understanding of system integration, including signal integrity and grounding.
- Experience with FPGA or embedded interfaces, including system-level debugging.
- Ability to support design validation through hands-on work on prototype tools.
Minimum Qualifications
Doctorate (Academic) Degree and 0 years related work experience; Master's Level Degree and related work experience of 3 years; Bachelor's Level Degree and related work experience of 5 years
