The Sr. Automation Engineer provides technical expertise in instrumentation, controls, and process automation across complex engineering projects and operational initiatives. This role is responsible for designing and implementing automation solutions that are safe, reliable, scalable, and aligned with business objectives. Candidates should expect an individual contributor role focused on technical execution, engineering excellence, and collaboration with cross-functional teams including engineering, operations, and project leadership, with accountability for technical quality and system performance. 

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement instrumentation, controls, and process automation solutions  
  • Apply automation, controls, and instrumentation design standards and best practices  
  • Contribute to automation scope definition and technical decision-making across projects  
  • Develop and review control philosophies, P&IDs, I/O lists, network architectures, and logic designs  
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, maintenance, and IT/OT stakeholders on automation activities  
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, cybersecurity, and safety requirements  
  • Support peer engineers and share technical knowledge on automation systems and methodologies  
  • Contribute to project planning and technical workload estimation  
  • Provide technical support during FAT, SAT, commissioning, and startup activities  
  • Identify and propose continuous improvement opportunities in automation systems, tools, and workflow  

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Controls, Automation, Chemical, or related field), or the equivalent in experience 
  • 7+ years of experience in instrumentation, controls, and process automation  
  • Strong expertise in DCS, PLC, SCADA, and industrial networking architecture  
  • Deep understanding of process control strategies, instrumentation, and field devices  
  • Experience applying engineering standards and technical best practices  
  • Proven ability to interface and collaborate with operations, maintenance, and project teams  
  • Experience in industrial, manufacturing, energy, or process environments  
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound technical decisions  
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams
