Sr. Analysis Engineer, Battery Pack, Battery Engineering
Description
Analysis Engineers on the Battery Team work at the leading edge of Tesla’s next vehicle, energy storage and humanoid robot products. You analyze and optimize pack, module, and cell performance. When existing tools are too slow or do not exist, you write custom software and apply AI tools to compress analysis cycles so more of your time goes to engineering judgment. Direction changes and moves fast, and you need strong fundamentals, attention to the details behind design tradeoffs, and the tenacity to make a design succeed.
Responsibilities
- Use CAE and CFD to shape manufacturing-centric pack and module designs, balancing performance against manufacturing, mass, cost and reliability
- Simulate subsystems and full products to evaluate design attributes and manufacturing processes
- Build custom analysis tools and apply AI software to accelerate CAE and CFD workflows, from model setup through post-processing and design iteration
- Correlate subsystem and full-vehicle models to test data, following standard protocols and best practices
- Run DOE and DFSS studies on components, assemblies, and vehicle designs to meet performance targets within mass, cost and reliability constraints
- Assess manufacturing, assembly, and service risks
- Contribute analysis to component specifications, DFMEAs, and other design documents
- Write concise summaries and report-outs for management
- Work with other modeling and design teams
Requirements
- Deep knowledge of FEM, finite volume methods, CFD, and numerical methods in a product-development setting, preferably transportation
- 5+ years analyzing battery pack, module, cell, or thermal systems, or equivalent high-voltage energy-storage hardware
- Strong applied experience in at least one of COMSOL, ANSYS Fluent, or STAR-CCM+, with working knowledge of the others
- Applied experience in Python required; MATLAB and Simulink a plus
- Experience with stand-alone or coupled thermal, fluid, electromagnetic, and structural analysis of electronic components
- Strength in thermal analysis, coupled electrical-thermal CAE, and single phase CFD
- Ability to work independently on hard problems, deliver under tight timing, root-cause correlation gaps, and collaborate in a fast, iterative engineering environment

Expected Compensation
$109,600 - $195,600/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefitsPay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
