Software Engineering Manager
The Purview Fundamentals team is core to Microsoft Purview and provides platform services from Authorization, Policies, Scopes, Alerts and Audits. We build the platform that supports Microsoft Purview and its millions of customers worldwide. We are looking for rockstar Engineering Manager who leads a team of amazing engineers and owns our services, that solve customer needs, ensures security and compliance are baked into the design and helps grow our engineers.

Responsibilities
• Own the end-to-end delivery of Microsoft Purview features and services, driving execution from strategy and design through development, deployment, and customer adoption.
• Lead and grow a team of software engineers by providing coaching, career development, performance guidance, and fostering an inclusive engineering culture.
• Drive service reliability, availability, and operational excellence through incident management, post-incident reviews (PIRs), on-call readiness, and continuous service improvements.
• Partner with product management, security, compliance, and platform teams to define roadmaps, prioritize investments, and deliver customer and business outcomes.
• Champion security-first engineering practices, ensuring adherence to Secure Future Initiative (SFI), compliance requirements, privacy standards, and vulnerability remediation goals.
• Establish engineering processes, quality standards, and metrics aligned with New Production Function (leveraging Agents across SDLC)
• Lead cross-functional collaboration across Microsoft Security, M365, Entra, and platform teams to deliver integrated Purview experiences.
• Drive technical architecture and design reviews, balancing scalability, reliability, performance, and cost considerations.
• Manage operational priorities, technical debt reduction, and long-term platform modernization efforts.
• Communicate engineering status, risks, dependencies, and strategic recommendations to senior leadership and stakeholders.
• Sponsor customer-focused innovation by leveraging telemetry, feedback, and data-driven insights to improve Purview products and services.
• Ensure teams maintain strong ownership of compliance, governance, RBAC, data protection, and enterprise security requirements across Purview workloads.
Qualifications
Qualifications - Required:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
Qualifications - Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:
- This position will be required to pass the Microsoft background and Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters Degree in computer Science Expertise in Distributed Systems Expertise in Software Security
- 10+ years of experience delivering enterprise scale software services.
- 5+ years of experience in leading software engineering teams

Software Engineering M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $165,600 - $296,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $220,800 - $331,200 per year.
