Software Engineer II
As a Software Engineer II, you will be responsible for implementing features towards a wide variety of business applications and services within Microsoft 365 products portfolio as well as ensuring they are done to meet rigorous quality standards. In short, you will do the following:
- Design, implement, test, deploy, maintain, and improve our software components and services, meet Microsoft security and AI-compliance standards.
- Improve application security maturity at scale by designing, implementing, and building security solutions.
- Building prototypes and proof-of-concept code, working alongside the engineering teams to provide advice on secure design and implementation.
- Embrace and use state-of-the-art new technologies.
- Participate in technical discussions and bring new ideas to the table.
- Own quality of your code.
- Author internal tools that improve the teams’ quality and security.

Responsibilities
- Learns to use appropriate artificial intelligence (AI) tools and practices across the software development lifecycle (SDLC) in a disciplined manner.
- With guidance, learns to create and implement code for a product, service, or feature reusing code as applicable. Begins to write and learn to create code that is extensible and maintainable with managerial oversight. Learns about and may begin to apply diagnosability, reliability, and maintainability, and develops an understanding of when the code is ready to be shared and delivered.
- Learning about debugging tools, tests, logs, telemetry, and other methods for proactively flagging issues before they occur. Participates in incident retrospectives as instructed to assist with identifying root causes of problems.
- Learns to review code and helps to review code of others to ensure it meets team standards. Participates in code review processes for self-development, gathers feedback, and learns about coding standards and the team's features.
- Learning about and helping to ensure the correct processes are followed to achieve a high degree of security, privacy, safety, and accessibility.
- Learns best practices about security and how to establish code invariants to model "security as code." Learns about how to adopt security standards for clear security code review practices for a product that align with design and engineering principles.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and develop a broad understanding of complex distributed systems, cloud services, and identity-based architectures.
- Experience analyzing technical signals, logs, telemetry, or system behavior to identify anomalies, investigate root causes, and drive data-informed decisions.
- Curiosity and problem-solving mindset with a passion for understanding how systems can fail, be misused, or behave unexpectedly, and using that knowledge to build scalable engineering solutions.
Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $102,100 - $202,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $133,800 - $219,200 per year.
