Role Overview
As a Software Engineer II on the FC Mobile team, you will drive the development and technical refinement of high-performance mobile web interfaces and client-side web applications. While this role leans heavily toward frontend architecture, responsive UI design, and rendering performance, we value versatile engineers with a broad technical mindset who can comfortably adapt across the tech stack and collaborate seamlessly on backend APIs and service integrations.
In this role, you will take end-to-end technical ownership of medium-to-large feature modules—from UI state management and client performance tuning to API integration and occasional backend service updates. You will partner closely with designers, product managers, and backend engineers to negotiate technical scope, identify edge cases early, enforce clean engineering standards, and mentor associate and mid-level engineers.
This role reports to the Lead Engineer.
Responsibilities
Architecture & Technical Execution
- Feature Ownership & Tech Design: Lead technical specification, UI state design, and task breakdowns for complex web modules; define clean API contracts and anticipate edge cases.
- Frontend Performance & Client Optimization: Architect fluid, responsive web interfaces; optimize rendering performance, memory consumption, and frame rates for resource-constrained mobile browser environments.
- Fullstack Versatility & Adaptability: Demonstrate flexibility across the tech stack by contributing to fullstack web workflows, integrating backend RESTful services, and taking on backend component updates or API integrations when needed.
- Telemetry, Debugging & RCA: Debug complex issues across client and network layers using profiling tools to deliver clear root-cause analysis (RCA) and durable technical fixes.
Quality, Collaboration & Governance
- Cross-Functional Scoping: Partner with product owners, UI/UX designers, and backend leads to assess technical feasibility, evaluate pre-development risks, and estimate task complexity.
- Multi-Layered Testing: Author automated test suites (unit, component, and end-to-end) across frontend modules and API client logic to maintain high code quality and reliability.
- Code Reviews & Mentorship: Conduct constructive peer code reviews, enforce TypeScript/React best practices, and mentor associate and junior engineers to maintain high engineering standards across the team.
Qualifications
Core Requirements
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with a strong foundation in modern web application development.
- Deep hands-on proficiency in modern JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML5/CSS3, responsive UI architecture, and robust client-side state management patterns.
- Demonstrated adaptability and breadth across web technologies, with a strong willingness to work across different parts of the tech stack as team and feature needs evolve.
- Solid track record of optimizing client rendering performance, memory efficiency, and responsiveness in mobile browsers.
- Practical experience with RESTful API integration, client-server data synchronization, and automated testing frameworks (unit, integration, e2e).
- Strong product and UX sensitivity, with a keen eye for UI design detail and a proactive mindset toward driving exceptional, intuitive user experiences and frontend excellence.
Preferred Qualifications (Bonus)
- Backend engineering experience with Node.js, server frameworks, or microservices is a strong plus.
- Familiarity with relational/NoSQL databases, distributed caching (e.g., Redis), or background worker pipelines.
- Experience with web graphics/animation pipelines (e.g., HTML5 Canvas, GSAP, or WebGL) or design system integration.
- Experience leading technical design for medium-sized features, evaluating edge cases, performing code reviews, and mentoring junior engineers.
