Microsoft’s Azure Data engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence. The products our portfolio include Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL DB, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure PostgreSQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Grid, and Power BI. The Databases organization delivers trusted, scalable operational AI ready databases that power application development across cloud, hybrid, and on premises environments. Our portfolio includes SQL, Azure Cosmos DB, DocumentDB, PostgreSQL, and MySQL, supporting developers as they build AI native applications and run critical workloads at global scale.
The Azure PostgreSQL team is expanding its portfolio, and as part of this growth, we are looking for engineers who will shape the next generation of our database offerings—solutions that redefine how billions of people connect to, explore, and interact with PostgreSQL. We are looking for engineers who bring fresh thinking, embrace diverse perspectives, and demonstrate technical excellence across the engineering spectrum.
As a software engineer in the Azure PostgreSQL team, you will build foundational platform capabilities that power Azure PostgreSQL and other open‑source database services. You will stay deeply connected to customer needs, act with ownership, and use data and insight to make bold, informed decisions. We expect our engineers to be versatile, model clarity and accountability, and bring curiosity and creativity as we innovate across the full stack. As we continue to advance our technology, you will operate with a growth mindset—leaning in, taking initiative, and delivering solutions that create meaningful, measurable impact for our customers and for Microsoft.

Responsibilities
- Creates and implements code for a product, service, or feature, reusing code as applicable
- Contributes to the development of automation within production and deployment of a complex product feature
- Conducts and creates experimentation to determine the effectiveness of changes for prototyping and testing features and applies findings back into development.
Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
Job Requirements: Other & Additional
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:
- This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred/Additional Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
