Software Engineer, Abuse & Anomaly Detection, High Voltage Systems
Description
The High Voltage Systems firmware team owns battery management, charging, and power conversion for Tesla vehicles and humanoid robots. Together, we push the limits of physics on a daily basis. The Abuse & Anomaly Detection sub-team is focused on reliably identifying when these mechanical, electrical, and electrochemical systems fail. You'll own the full lifecycle: conducting hardware/software co-design alongside electrical, test, and integration engineers, writing embedded drivers, developing and integrating real-time algorithms, and monitoring how they perform across the fleet. Your work will run on millions of vehicles driving hundreds of millions of miles a day, so robustness to sensor noise, manufacturing variation, environmental extremes, and aging is central to the job. That is what keeps our fleet on the road.
Responsibilities
- Work with electrical, mechanical, reliability, manufacturing, and validation teams to define and meet requirements for new diagnostics
- Design, implement, and deploy real-time detection algorithms using statistical and classical machine learning methods
- Develop low-level firmware drivers for new sensors and microcontrollers, including hardware bring-up, investigations, and physical testing
- Validate algorithms through dedicated abuse and reliability testing, including hands-on support at test sites
- Own algorithm performance after launch through large-scale fleet data analysis
- Partner with manufacturing to develop novel end-of-line test flows that deliver high quality at high volume
Requirements
- Proficiency in C and/or C++, and in Python or another scripting language
- Solid grounding in probability, statistics, and classical machine learning (detection, regression, classification), through coursework, projects, or work experience
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field, or equivalent experience with evidence of exceptional ability
- Experience with real-time or embedded systems and microcontroller toolchains (debuggers, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers) is a plus
- Experience with signal processing, detection theory, or time-series analysis is a plus
- Hands-on experience testing and debugging hardware is a plus
