About the team and the role:

eBay, Inc. seeks Software Engineer 3 in San Jose, CA 

What you will accomplish: 

Job Duties: Design, develop, and support highly scalable, distributed web services and applications that power eBay’s global seller inventory and listing management systems. Contribute to the core selling experience used by millions of business sellers worldwide and supports systems that operate at internet scale with strict requirements for performance, reliability, scalability, and accuracy. Build large-scale backend systems, and the ability to collaborate across product, design, quality, and operations teams in a fast-paced, iterative development environment. Design and architect cross–data center, distributed, fault-tolerant, highly available, and high-performance web services and applications. Own functional domains, subsystems, or major features throughout the full software development lifecycle, including design, implementation, testing, deployment, and production support. Develop and maintain backend services using Java and/or Node.js, leveraging RESTful and SOA-based architectures. Design, develop, and support web applications that operate across browsers and device form factors, ensuring maintainability and performance. Apply object-oriented analysis and design (OOA/D), design patterns, and sound software architecture principles to complex business problems. Estimate engineering effort, plan implementation timelines, identify technical risks, and propose mitigation strategies. Collaborate closely with Product Management, User Experience/Design, Architecture, QA, and Operations teams to deliver solutions aligned with business objectives. Implement prototypes and proof-of-concepts to evaluate new ideas and technologies. Participate in design reviews and code reviews to ensure code quality, scalability, and maintainability. Contribute to production support activities, including release management and on-call rotation. Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders across geographically distributed teams. Partial telecommuting permitted from within a commutable distance.

What you will bring:

Minimum Requirements: Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related field, plus two years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.

Special Skill Requirements: 

  • Experience designing and developing highly scalable, distributed backend platforms and internet-scale web services using Java/J2EE (2 years)
  • Experience building service-oriented architectures using SOAP and RESTful services, including JSON and XML payloads (2 years)
  • Experience applying Object-Oriented Analysis and Design (OOA/D) principles and common design patterns in large-scale systems (2 years)
  • Experience developing high-performance web services with an understanding of data structures, algorithms, and core computer science fundamentals (2 years)
  • Experience working with Relational Databases and NoSQL data stores in production systems (2 years)
  • Experience with concurrent and multithreaded programming, including synchronization and thread safety in server-side applications (1 year)
  • Experience designing and developing fault-tolerant, highly available, cross–data center distributed systems (1 year)

Salary: $187,741.00-262,700.00 per annum. 40 hours per week; M-F, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship. 

Additional Details

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employees will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
