Software Development Manager, GREF Tech
The Amazon Travel & Events (AT&E) Tech team, part of Finance Automation, is driving a multi-year transformation of the end-to-end Travel & Expense experience for over 500,000 Amazon employees across 64 countries. We are consolidating previously fragmented travel, events, payments, and expense systems into a unified, AI-powered experience within AtoZ, organized around four interconnected modules: Plan, Book, Pay, and Expense. Our platform leverages machine learning, natural language processing, and GenAI to deliver context-aware policy guidance, proactive compliance recommendations, fraud detection, and sustainability intelligence embedded into employee workflows. The transformation eliminates significant administrative burden across the organization while delivering substantial cost savings and recovering employee productivity at scale.
We are seeking a Software Development Manager (SDM) to lead the development of new services that power the end-to-end travel and expense experience for Amazonians worldwide. You will build and ship solutions across the Plan, Book, Pay, and Expense modules — integrating AI capabilities such as intelligent policy guidance, automated expense categorization, and GenAI-driven workflows into production systems that must work reliably across 64 countries, multiple currencies, and diverse regulatory environments.
You will partner closely with Product Managers, Software Development Engineers (SDEs), Front-End Engineers (FEEs), and Applied Scientists to translate the platform vision into scalable, high-quality services that simplify how employees travel, host events, and manage expenses.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience building and leading teams of software engineers, front-end engineers, and technical program managers, with a proven track record of delivering enterprise-level systems at scale. They will be a strategic thinker who hires and develops exceptional talent, sets clear goals tied to organizational impact, and independently manages both day-to-day execution and long-term roadmap priorities — fostering a high-performance, team-oriented culture.
Key job responsibilities
As a Software Development Manager, you will:
Technical Leadership & Innovation Shape architectural decisions for next-generation Travel & Expense systems and services that process sensitive financial and employee data across 64 countries Drive adoption of AI technologies — including agentic AI, LLMs, and ML-powered pattern detection — to transform manual travel and expense operations into intelligent, autonomous workflows Design scalable, secure systems with enterprise-grade controls, observability, and auditability built in from day one Build flexible integration patterns that bridge modern and legacy transactional systems across the Plan, Book, Pay, and Expense modules Partner with AWS teams to evaluate and adopt emerging AI capabilities and primitives.
Team Leadership Lead a high-performing engineering team building solutions that support Travel & Events operations and transactions at massive scale Hire, develop, and retain exceptional engineering talent across backend, frontend, and program management disciplines Set clear goals tied to measurable organizational impact and independently manage both day-to-day execution and long-term roadmap priorities Foster a culture of continuous improvement through data-driven insights, rigorous testing, and robust governance frameworks.
Impact Transform how 500,000+ Amazonians plan travel, book events, manage payments, and submit expenses — replacing fragmented, manual processes with a unified AI-powered experience that scales globally Drive measurable operational efficiencies by reducing cycle times, manual touchpoints, and error rates in complex travel and expense workflows Influence the automation and AI strategy for one of Amazon's largest employee-facing platforms.
