Software Development Engineer, AWS Payments & Fraud Prevention

You'll design and build systems that process millions of events per second, develop machine learning-powered detection pipelines, and directly contribute to keeping AWS safe. The AWS Payments & Fraud Prevention team protects AWS and its customers from fraud, abuse, and account compromise at global scale. We build highly scalable, real-time systems that ingest billions of signals daily, process petabytes of data, and make split-second decisions to stop bad actors — from account registration through the entire customer lifecycle. Our stack includes Apache Flink for stream processing, AWS Neptune for graph-based intelligence, and machine learning models for adaptive detection. Key job responsibilities
- Design, implement, and operate highly scalable distributed systems that process millions of events per second with low-latency requirements.
- Build real-time fraud detection pipelines using Apache Flink for stream processing, aggregations, and anomaly detection.
- Develop graph-based intelligence solutions on AWS Neptune to uncover hidden relationships and identify fraud rings.
- Write high-quality, production-ready code for services that must be available 24/7 with zero tolerance for downtime.
- Own the full lifecycle of your solutions — from design and implementation through deployment, monitoring, and operational excellence.
- Collaborate with applied scientists to integrate machine learning models into real-time decisioning systems.
- Work in a fast-paced, agile environment where you're solving complex problems with direct, measurable impact on AWS security.

Basic Qualifications
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience
- 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience
- 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience
- Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
