Senior Technical Infrastructure Program Manager, Field Engineering Portfolio

Amazon Web Services•Published 19 hours ago•First seen 1 hours ago
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

The Data Center Field Engineering Team is the engineering owner for the lifecycle of AWS data centers. This includes supporting new designs/innovations through data center end-of-life, with a focus on root cause analysis of failures, capacity and availability improvement, and optimization of the existing fleet.

We're looking for an experienced Senior Technical Infrastructure Program Manager to lead the Global Data Center Performance Indicator (DCPI) Program for AWS Field Engineering. DCPIs turn continuous signals from data center infrastructure into early warning of equipment risk, so the fleet moves from reacting to failures to preventing them. In this role, you will set the global strategy for how AWS measures and protects the health of its data center infrastructure. You will decide which risks the fleet must detect and in what order, expand the program into new domains where regulatory requirements and AWS’s public reputation are at stake, and set the direction for the best way to scale the program so AWS operations become more efficient and intelligent, while delivering world-class uptime for our customers.

You will bring deep technical expertise in data center mechanical, electrical, and controls systems, and use it to set the technical direction for an AI-empowered, machine learning–integrated platform that will lead AWS toward its vision of scaling effortlessly. You will partner closely with multiple engineering disciplines, including mechanical/electrical, reliability and quality, software, data science, and data engineering teams, as well as operations and sustainability partners. You will make strategic decisions on program priorities, investment, and overall direction, connecting long-term program vision with the rapid growth of AWS.

You must be adept at identifying and communicating upcoming risks, issues, and bottlenecks, and be instrumental in resolving them, often across multiple organizational boundaries. You must possess a strong sense of organization, communication, and team-building skills that foster robust working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Key job responsibilities
  • Own the strategy and roadmap for global infrastructure health and performance programs, prioritizing investment by risk, customer impact, and scale.
  • Define the performance indicators, signals, thresholds, and data-quality standards that measure the health of data center infrastructure, and hold them to a high technical bar.
  • Drive programs across regions and organizational boundaries, aligning engineering, operations, software, and data science partners on priorities, standards, and success metrics.
  • Set the technical requirements for the tools and platforms that build, deploy, and scale performance monitoring, and partner with software and machine learning (ML) teams on where automation and anomaly detection add the most value.
  • Extend program coverage to new equipment types and domains, and establish mechanisms for transitioning mature capabilities to operational owners.
  • Full lifecycle ownership from risk identification to global fleet-wide resolution, including standards and processes for tracking, reporting, and closing actions.
  • Prepare narratives for executive leadership with recommendations that articulate decision points relative to cost, timing, availability, and strategic trade-offs.
