About Strava

Strava is the app for active people. Our mission is simple: to motivate people to live their best active lives. We believe in the power of movement to connect and drive people forward.

About This Role

Our Technical Accounting and SEC Reporting team owns how Strava applies accounting standards and reports to the market. As we scale our reporting and technical accounting for the requirements of a public company, this team makes sure our conclusions are sound, documented, and ready for audit and regulatory scrutiny.

In this role, you will set technical direction for the team and take increasing ownership of Strava's technical accounting areas as you onboard. You will work closely with the Accounting Director, lead an existing team member, and partner with Legal, FP&A, Revenue Accounting, external auditors, and outside counsel to resolve complex accounting questions and deliver SEC filings.

We follow a flexible hybrid model that translates to more than half of your time on-site in our San Francisco office, three days per week.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the evaluation of complex and novel accounting transactions, and document conclusions in memos that stand up to auditor and SEC scrutiny.
  • Own preparation and review of 10-K and 10-Q content, including technical disclosures.
  • Partner with external auditors and outside counsel, with the credibility to defend technical positions.
  • Build and run the technical accounting framework: policy library, memo standards, transaction intake and triage, and review controls.
  • Anticipate how new standards and regulatory changes affect Strava, and prepare the team ahead of them.
  • Coach and develop your direct report, and hold the team to a high bar for technical quality.
  • Work with Legal, FP&A, Revenue Accounting, and equity compensation partners to resolve issues and align on accounting positions.

What You'll Bring to the Team

  • Hands-on experience preparing 10-K and 10-Q filings.
  • A CPA license and Big 4 public accounting experience.
  • A track record of sound technical accounting judgment, shown through memos you have authored and issues you have resolved.
  • The ability to work through issues with a range of cross-functional stakeholders, with a low-ego, solution-oriented approach.
  • Experience managing and developing people.
  • Experience supporting an IPO, an S-1, or a company's first years of public reporting is a plus.
  • Experience designing technical accounting policies and processes at a high-growth company is a plus.
