Senior Staff Hardware Engineer - Optical
About Marvell
Marvell’s semiconductor solutions are the essential building blocks of the data infrastructure that connects our world. Across enterprise, cloud and AI, and carrier architectures, our innovative technology is enabling new possibilities.
At Marvell, you can affect the arc of individual lives, lift the trajectory of entire industries, and fuel the transformative potential of tomorrow. For those looking to make their mark on purposeful and enduring innovation, above and beyond fleeting trends, Marvell is a place to thrive, learn, and lead.
Your Team, Your Impact
AI’s next breakthrough depends on more than compute—it depends on how efficiently data moves. As AI clusters scale out across racks and data centers, optical connectivity becomes essential to delivering the bandwidth, power efficiency, and performance these systems demand.Join Marvell’s Optics team and help engineer the hardware that makes that connectivity possible. Our platforms bring together high-speed silicon photonics, transmit and receive amplifiers, controller ASICs, Marvell digital signal processors, and embedded firmware to create highly integrated optical solutions.
Our team owns the design, verification, and validation of these components, including system-level testing of hardware, firmware, and control loops across operating conditions. You will work alongside specialists across these disciplines and carry products from initial concept through new product introduction.
What You Can Expect
As a Senior Staff Hardware Engineer, you will lead hardware platform development for integrated optical transceiver engines supporting high-speed fiber-optic communications.
Your decisions will shape how advanced semiconductor devices are powered, interconnected, characterized, and prepared for production. You will translate complex electrical and system requirements into robust hardware, resolve challenging analog and RF issues, and build the platforms that enable teams to validate optical performance with confidence.
This is an opportunity to combine hands-on engineering with technical leadership at a company advancing optical connectivity for AI and cloud infrastructure. You will influence design direction, guide cross-functional decisions, and see your work progress from the first schematic to production readiness.
- Lead Optical module and test platform hardware development from concept through NPI. Define and deliver integrated optical engines’ test platforms, including device-under-test (DUT) cards, interposers, sockets, and handler boards.
- Own critical design decisions. Drive schematic capture, PCB and substrate layout reviews, stack-up optimization, power delivery design, and bill-of-materials management.
- Engineer for high-speed performance. Evaluate signal integrity and power integrity simulation results, translate findings into design improvements, and verify compliance with electrical requirements.
- Bring designs to life in the lab. Lead optical test platform hardware bring-up, electrical and optical characterization, and debugging using high-speed oscilloscopes, vector or performance network analyzers, signal generators, optical sampling scope, and electronic loads.
- Validate the complete system. Partner with optical, silicon, and firmware engineers to investigate hardware behavior, control-loop performance, and interactions across operating conditions.
- Accelerate engineering through automation. Develop scripts and tools using Python, C++, and/or MATLAB to improve validation efficiency, measurement repeatability, and correlation between simulations and laboratory results.
- Balance performance with production realities. Select components with attention to electrical performance, availability, cost, and manufacturability.
- Connect development with production. Collaborate with operations, product engineering, test engineering, applications engineering, manufacturing, and business development to align requirements and support successful product introduction.
- Provide Senior Staff technical leadership. Lead design reviews, mentor engineers, communicate tradeoffs, and coordinate technical execution across global teams.
- Build knowledge that lasts. Document design rationale, validation methods, and results, and share insights through technical presentations and internal reports.
At Marvell, you can build deep expertise while contributing across a broad semiconductor technology portfolio. This role offers the combination of challenging engineering, end-to-end ownership, and collaboration needed to turn advanced optical technology into products that help AI infrastructure scale.
What We're Looking For
