Overview
As a software engineer on GitHub’s Ecosystem Events team, you will build and operate the webhooks platform that powers third-party integrations and many of GitHub’s flagship products. You will work with a distributed team of engineers on the event-driven systems developers use to integrate with GitHub.
In this role, you will design, implement, ship, and support improvements to our webhook services and APIs. You will improve how the platform handles growing traffic, investigate delivery problems, and make our services easier to operate. Our tech stack is primarily Go and Ruby. We work closely with the teams responsible for databases, queues, networking, and compute infrastructure to deliver webhooks reliably at scale.
We are looking for engineers who enjoy solving distributed systems problems and care about the developers who depend on our events and integrations. Our team works remotely and relies on clear written communication and asynchronous collaboration.
Responsibilities- Design, develop, test, and ship improvements to GitHub’s webhook services and APIs.
- Build and maintain event-driven systems that handle high volumes of traffic reliably.
- Debug problems across service boundaries and improve the tooling and observability needed to investigate them.
- Work with infrastructure partners to improve platform performance and resolve dependencies.
- Support teams across GitHub as they build webhook integrations.
- Provide technical leadership and help other engineers grow through mentoring, pairing, and code reviews.
- Maintain service health and respond to production problems through on-call and first responder rotations.
- Write architecture proposals and use experiments and prototypes to evaluate approaches to scaling our systems.
- Write maintainable code, test it, and use CI/CD pipelines to deliver changes safely.
