Senior Software Engineer, Developer Productivity, Sensing & Connectivity
Summary
Our team builds the foundational systems that engineers across Apple rely on to build, integrate, and ship software — an integration system that gives developers the power to manage changes across a wide range of release trains and hardware platforms. This role gives you the opportunity to own and define strategy, not just execute against someone else's roadmap: how we increase engineering velocity, reduce manual effort, and raise the bar on quality, across every team that depends on us.
Description
We are looking for someone who can handle ambiguity and shifting priorities well, and treat change as a chance to add structure rather than a disruption.
Enjoy working regularly with engineers across many different teams.
Find real satisfaction in knowing the tools you build are critical to how engineering teams ship software to customers.
Are always looking for smarter, more effective ways to solve problems.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and implementation of tools, systems, and processes that accelerate engineering velocity, reduce manual effort, and improve the quality of what teams ship.
- Use modern AI tooling to rethink how our own team — and the teams we serve — can work at a fundamentally higher level of productivity, not just automate around the edges.
- Work closely with client team integration leads to understand their workflows, constraints, and pain points, and make sure what we build actually addresses them.
- Keep pipelines current with the latest central build and integration processes across every Apple OS release train, and root-cause failures in distributed, networked build environments that don't have obvious owners.
- Guide and advise the teams we serve on best practices for observable, reliable, scalable systems.
- Share ownership of the reliability of what we build, including rotating on-call responsibility for critical incidents.
Minimum Qualifications
- You demonstrate an understanding of distributed systems, asynchronous behaviors in pipeline design, CI/CD systems, and build infrastructure.
- You demonstrate ability to write and debug software systems in scripting languages such as Ruby, Python, zsh, or JavaScript.
- You have a solid understanding of git capabilities including branching, merging, rebasing, and resolving conflicts.
- You can verbally communicate and document technical issues and solutions clearly.
- You're experienced in the planning, design, implementation, integration, test, and maintenance phases of software development, with a solid understanding of developer workflows.
- You use AI-assisted tools to write, debug, and ship code effectively, and can speak to how they've changed your workflow.
- You have a BS or MS in CS, EE, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- You have experience gathering requirements and aligning roadmaps directly with stakeholders across multiple teams.
- You've handled complex build and integration projects across different product lines under tight timelines.
- You have an understanding of low-level git plumbing commands, hooks, and reflog.
- You have broad experience in overall software system design and implementation.
