Senior Software Engineer, Customer Terminals Software, Amazon Leo Customer Terminal
Amazon Leo is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband network connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world — from individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies.
The Customer Terminals Software team owns the full software stack that powers the customer based ground terminals. This is a unique engineering challenge at the intersection of embedded systems, wireless communications, and high-volume consumer hardware. Our team is responsible for low-level device drivers, board support packages, Linux kernel, secure manufacturing, MAC and PHY interactions, data plane, control plane, networking, device management, and user-facing applications.
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to serve as the technical leader for Customer Terminals Software — someone who can define the architecture, raise the engineering bar, and drive technical excellence across the full embedded software stack. This role offers high autonomy to shape both the technology and the engineering culture of a team building a new category of infrastructure at planetary scale.
Key job responsibilities
You will own significant portions of the customer terminal software architecture, partnering with Senior stakeholders across Amazon Leo's hardware, ASIC, RF, electrical, thermal, power, and software teams. You'll define interfaces between subsystems, resolve cross-cutting architectural challenges, and work hands-on with engineers as a force multiplier. You'll operate in productive ambiguity — where problems are not always clear and solutions need to be invented — while delivering systems where software meets physics, with signals traversing thousands of kilometers to satellites moving at orbital velocity.
Los Angeles County applicants: Job duties for this position include: work safely and cooperatively with other employees, supervisors, and staff; adhere to standards of excellence despite stressful conditions; communicate effectively and respectfully with employees, supervisors, and staff to ensure exceptional customer service; and follow all federal, state, and local laws and Company policies. Criminal history may have a direct, adverse, and negative relationship with some of the material job duties of this position. These include the duties and responsibilities listed above, as well as the abilities to adhere to company policies, exercise sound judgment, effectively manage stress and work safely and respectfully with others, exhibit trustworthiness and professionalism, and safeguard business operations and the Company’s reputation. Pursuant to the Los Angeles County Fair Chance Ordinance, we will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records.

Key job responsibilities
- Technical Vision & Architecture: Own the long-term software architecture for customer terminals, spanning board bring-up, BSP, kernel, networking stack, device management, and application layers. Define architectural patterns that ensure scalability, reliability, security, and maintainability across product generations.
- Cross-Functional System Design: Partner with hardware, silicon, RF, antenna, networking, and product teams to drive hardware/software co-design decisions across SoC selection, RF integration, power management, thermal constraints, and satellite link optimization.
- Technical Leadership & Force Multiplication: Serve as the technical lead on the most demanding, cross-functional problems. Exert influence across multiple teams, increasing their productivity and effectiveness by sharing deep knowledge and experience. Functionally decompose complex problems into simple, straightforward solutions.
- Engineering Excellence: Define best practices for the software development lifecycle — design, implementation, testing, and operations. Drive quality metrics, code review standards, and operational excellence mechanisms across the organization.
- Embedded Systems Delivery: Lead architecture and delivery of mission-critical embedded software for high-volume consumer devices operating in diverse and challenging environments worldwide. Ensure robustness in connectivity, performance, OTA updates, fleet observability, and lifecycle management.
