Senior Software Engineer, Consumer Payments Growth
Google's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. Our products need to handle information at massive scale, and extend well beyond web search. We're looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas from all areas, including information retrieval, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking and data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, UI design and mobile; the list goes on and is growing every day. As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward.
The Consumer Payments Growth engineering team’s mission is to accelerate the adoption, everyday usage, and long-term retention of Google Wallet and Google Payments globally.
As a Senior Software Engineer on the team in Singapore, you will set technical direction and own end-to-end engineering workstreams for global growth initiatives from real-time decisioning pipelines and financial rewards settlement to stateful quest engines and low-latency signal aggregation. You will partner closely with cross-functional teams to transform growth strategies into resilient, highly scalable production systems. You will be a technical leader in the codebase: writing clean, scalable code, establishing high standards through architectural design reviews, driving technical simplification across distributed dependencies, and mentoring engineers across the Singapore and Tokyo engineering sites.Whether it is paying online with Autofill, using tap and pay in stores, or using the Google Pay app, the Payments team at Google is focused on making payments simple, seamless, and secure. In addition to consumer payment technologies, the Payments team also powers the money movement between Google and its consumers and businesses.

Responsibilities
- Lead the architectural design, implementation, and deployment of scalable back-end services, platform components, and Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) in Java/C++ supporting real-time event streaming and growth campaigns.
- Build high-performance communications infrastructure that delivers personalized, contextual in-app messages and lifecycle notifications across mobile, web, and checkout surfaces.
- Architect resilient, idempotent financial settlement workflows and digital voucher vaulting systems with strict transactional consistency and anti-abuse controls.
- Design low-latency feature stores and telemetry pipelines to support high-velocity A/B testing, counterfactual logging, and causal attribution in close partnership with data science. Implement stateful milestone quest engines and gamified reward mechanics that drive sustainable user engagement and positive unit economics.
- Drive technical execution for complex multi-quarter projects, mentor junior and mid-level engineers, conduct rigorous design reviews, and advocate Artificial Intelligence (AI)-assisted development to accelerate velocity.
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 5 years of experience with software programming in C++, Java, Python or Go.
- 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
- 3 years of experience designing, building, and operating scalable back-end distributed systems, microservices architectures, or high-throughput APIs.
- Experience leading the technical design and end-to-end delivery of multi-quarter software engineering projects.
Preferred qualifications:
- Domain experience in Consumer Payments, loyalty/reward platforms, promotional voucher systems, or large-scale growth/conversion funnel optimization.
- Practical experience with event-motivated architectures, pub/sub messaging queues, and real-time stream processing pipelines.
- Strong experience with distributed relational databases (e.g., Spanner, SQL), schema lifecycle management, transaction isolation, and idempotency patterns.
- Familiarity with large-scale experimentation platforms, counterfactual evaluation, and collaborating with data scientists to measure incremental user behavior.
- Track record of effective cross-functional leadership and technical communication across globally distributed engineering teams.
- Demonstrated interest and practical experience in utilizing modern AI-powered development tools to enhance software engineering workflows.
