The CO+I Critical Datacenter Services (CDS) team is responsible for designing and delivering solutions to support global datacenter operations and to improve availability. CDS is helping to drive CO+I’s transition to a customer centric, data driven, live service culture. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be a key player in this transition.
As a Senior Software Engineer on the CO+I Critical Datacenter Services (CDS) team, you will be responsible for analyzing live and historical telemetry to build and maintain fleet-wide tooling that surfaces datacenter risk. You will partner with CO+I teams to build off and leverage each other to ensure that we are driving continuous improvements across the fleet for risk assessment, vital health signals, and tooling creation. You will work with massive amounts of data with low latency requirements across cutting edge technologies, with the potential for significant potential impact to both internal partners and external customers.

Responsibilities
As a CDS Senior Software Engineer, you will:
- Create innovative solutions to complex and unconventional problems.
- Leads discussions for the architecture of products/solutions and creates proposals for architecture by testing design hypotheses and helping to refine code plans
- Investigate and apply AI/ML and LLM-based approaches — including predictive risk models, forecasting, and agentic triage — to improve risk and vital health insight and reduce manual intervention across the fleet.
- Mentor mid-level engineers through design reviews, pair programming, and code review, providing actionable feedback that raises the technical bar across the team.
- Contribute to the development and design of software services, applications, and tools that are secure, highly available, scalable, and reliable to meet the needs of the business.
- Leads by example within the team by producing extensible and maintainable code.
- Optimizes, debugs, refactors, and reuses code to improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment (ROI).
- Applies metrics to drive the quality and stability of code, as well as appropriate coding patterns and best practices.
- Analyze manually identified critical environment risks and automate their assessment and reporting.
- Collaborate with software development and data engineering teams to ensure that software systems are designed with security, privacy, and reliability in mind.
- Leverage AI-assisted engineering tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Azure OpenAI) across code authoring, review, and test generation, and help establish team practices for their effective and responsible use.
- Onboard new engineers and interns to CDS systems, codebases, and operational practices, serving as a technical point of contact as they ramp.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Modern DevOps practices (ex: Git, CI/CD, Azure DevOps/VSTS), including build and deployment pipelines, yaml development, and unit/integration testing.
- Experience with Python/PySpark, Typescript, Kusto, or other query language in production systems.
- Hands-on experience with Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Log Analytics, and/or any analytical and visualization tool (Web Apps, Power BI, etc).
- Experience working in a fast-paced/competitive environment, and have a deep desire to work collaboratively, solve problems with groups, find win/win solutions and celebrate successes.
- Ability to effectively work independently to derive actionable solutions.
- Ability to collaborate across the globe with diverse teams and be able to travel as necessary to learn and support operations in the US.
- Strong communicator with both words and data - you understand what it takes to go from raw data to something a human understands.
- BA/BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
- Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools and applying AI/ML or LLM-based techniques to production systems.
- Demonstrated experience mentoring engineers or leading interns and growing technical capability within a team.
- 6+ years of end-to-end experience in Software Engineering with proficiency in languages such as C#, Python, PowerShell, or JavaScript.
- 6+ years of experience as a software engineer, database engineer, site reliability engineer, or similar role.
- 4+ years of experience building or analyzing risk, health, or reliability tooling for datacenter critical environments, information technology, or related and developing automated monitoring.

- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $160,200 - $261,000 per year.
