Overview

Imagine being at the forefront of a transformation powered by Data and AI, helping Marketing at Microsoft become a true “Frontier Organization” by fundamentally changing how data platforms are built, deployed, operated, and optimized. As a Senior Software Engineer on the Global Marketing Data Engineering team, you will help engineer the platform foundations that power large-scale marketing data products and AI experiences across Microsoft.

This role will focus on Platform Engineering, DevOps, Infrastructure Automation, Developer Productivity, Reliability, and Cloud Cost Optimization across Microsoft Azure and Fabric. You will design and build reusable capabilities for Infrastructure-as-Code, CI/CD, automated provisioning, environment management, observability, deployment automation, cloud governance, and continuous infrastructure optimization. Rather than solving these problems independently for every workload, you will establish standardized engineering patterns and self-service capabilities that teams can adopt across the organization.

This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who enjoys eliminating operational toil, improving developer experience, and using automation and AI to create scalable engineering systems. You will partner closely with Data Engineering, DataOps, Security, Governance, and Microsoft product teams to improve the speed, reliability, security, and cost efficiency of the Marketing data platform.

Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees, we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day, we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.

Responsibilities
  • Design and build reusable platform engineering and DevOps capabilities across the Marketing data ecosystem, including Azure and Microsoft Fabric workloads.
  • Develop standardized CI/CD frameworks and deployment patterns that enable reliable, repeatable, and secure releases across environments.
  • Build and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code frameworks using technologies such as Bicep, ARM, Terraform, PowerShell, or equivalent tooling.
  • Automate infrastructure and environment provisioning, configuration, policy application, deployment, and lifecycle management.
  • Develop self-service platform capabilities and paved-road engineering patterns that allow application and data teams to provision and operate infrastructure with minimal manual intervention.
  • Drive infrastructure and cloud cost optimization through utilization telemetry, tagging, attribution, idle-resource detection, rightsizing, automated shutdown, capacity optimization, and policy-based controls.
  • Build capabilities that provide near-real-time visibility into infrastructure utilization and cost across domains, subscriptions, resource groups, services, and business initiatives.
  • Establish engineering standards for source control, branching, release management, automated testing, environment promotion, rollback, and deployment validation.
  • Partner with DataOps and Reliability Engineering to improve observability, monitoring, alerting, SLOs, incident diagnosis, and automated remediation.
  • Engineer platform capabilities that improve resilience, including automated recovery, deployment safety, configuration validation, capacity management, and environment consistency.
  • Integrate security-by-design and DevSecOps practices into CI/CD and infrastructure workflows, including policy enforcement, secrets management, identity, network controls, and automated security validation.
  • Apply AI-assisted and agentic engineering capabilities to improve developer productivity, automate operational tasks, analyze infrastructure health, and accelerate troubleshooting and remediation.
  • Identify recurring engineering and operational toil and convert manual processes into reusable automation and platform capabilities.
  • Use operational telemetry, incidents, cost data, deployment metrics, and developer feedback to identify and prioritize platform improvements.
  • Partner with Microsoft Azure, Fabric, Developer Tools, and other product teams to address platform gaps and influence product capabilities.

Embody Microsoft’s culture and values.
